New American Gospel was possibly the best metal album of the 00's. In a world where you had ****ty melodic metalcore and deathcore in one corner, retro and reunited thrash bands in another, and of course underground bands playing black/death/whatever metal that was trying to put a new face on genres that were now surviving on ever increasing novelty rather than actual innovation, Lamb of God made a record that was one of the last times a band truly breathed new life into non-weirdo metal by channeling their influences into a cohesive sound that was fresh and vital and intense rather than just sounding like a band cobbling together genres with clearly visible seams.

I haven't kept up enough on this decade's metal to say this is still true but I wouldn't be surprised if it was tbh.

P.S. Too bad what happened to LOG after though. They still had that spark in a lot of ways for the next couple albums but they definitely sounded like they were toning down to be more accessible.

the happy mondays have recorded 2 great albums, their debut in 1987 and pills n thrills and bellyaches in 1990. In between they released bummed which is mediocre.
i think that one of the main reasons is the production of Martin Hannett who makes the band sound like they re playing inside a well or something.

Of course i will deny that i ever said anything bad about M.H. if i get asked in public.

I like Bummed a lot, I find it very hard to pick a favourite among those three albums

you think? i d tell you i ll give it another chance but i already did that.
i like the other two so much that i heard bummed many many times wondering why it never clicked. i think of it as a sonic soup where nothing sticks out, like i cant remember no songs no melodies nothing. i think the production plays a big role in this.
between the other two i agree its hard to choose. if pressed i think i d go for the 3d one [produced by........Paul Oakenfold (!!!!) as i recently learned]

yeah i guess thats what most of the listeners tend to think..its an unpopular opinion after all. strikes me as odd too, i usually like the reverb, the "dirty" sound in general in this type of music. but for this album, although i listen to it from time to time, i dont care about. well with exceptions of course:

Pearl Jam is awful.

Anthony Kiedis is both the biggest diva and least talented "musician" in the business outside of corporate pop, and has ridden the coattails of much better musicians for his entire career.

I'm not sure how unpopular this is, but A Moon Shaped Pool is Radiohead's best album since at least Kid A and maybe since OK Computer.

Plenty of people here recognize Pearl Jam's terribleness. I think we shed most PJ fans long ago tbh.
