Well, I thought it was a given that the Sammy Hagar led VH was superior to ACDC.

I could I feel that way too, but I never bothered with Van Hagar, so can't really verify what you said. AC/DC is such cookie-cutter re-write your only hit over and over again type band with the same five songs played on the radio ad infinitum. I don't think they are neither good nor bad, they are just there trapped in some kind of Rock n Roll Möbius strip.
