An unpopular opinion with me at least.

My unpopular musical opinion: almost every form of music is a stylized version of trying to grasp the harmonic series but failing due to technical limitations such as instrument design and the level education people generally had in the past. As such, I believe all musical systems are practical and useful but fundamentally flawed concepts.

I have only ever owned one 8 track. It was the audio from the movie Flash Gordon. |

If this doesn't sound like pure aggression, then boi. |
Pretty sure everyone would be on board if Oxbow were better recognized.

That Daughters record was and is still super solid but holy moly did that get a lot of recognition and praise heaped on to it. Oxbow have always been more interesting and thought provoking but I usually listen to Daughters when I need something to just straight up f*ck my ears so they both have their place. Oxbow can be more nuanced and delicate which I like as well.

Eh, not that I don't like that Daughters album but I get what they accomplish from Oxbow in a bigger way. Their dynamics make the visceral, damning elements a lot more hard hitting. Eugene S. Robinson's vocals push it over the edge, mainly. Their strangeness and physicality is like being attacked by a schizophrenic, except as you become more immersed in the music it begins to feel like you're the schizophrenic. Marshall's vocals on YWGWYW are more like a banker yelling at a slave in his sex dungeon.
Honestly they should collab. |
