I agree, it's a very solid song (and album). I just think they had changed their musical direction with this album in particular.

I scanned wiki. I’ve listened to almost no nu metal. Maybe like 20 seconds here and there to just say nope. There’s names I recognize but mostly just like yeah I remember they suck. A rare genre I’m not even interested in exploring at all.
This the only thing you need from that whole thing.

I guess, but the lead single was Wish You Were Here and that was only "soft" relative to the other nu-metal bands dick-measuring whose dad could beat up the other bands dad.

The refrain especially has that overdriven guitar that was a hallmark of ****ty post-grunge of that era. Today they (Incubus) don't sound as djent as the rest of the field and thereby aren't as embarrassing to say you'd seen/listened to. But therein exposes the major flaw of nu-metal. No one dared stand out lest you be called a major pussy. So Incubus wrote "Drive" and Mudvayne decided to do "Artsy Slipknot" and everyone else tried to be Korn, to the point that major record labels signed Adema because the lead singer was Jonathan Davis' stepbrother when Adema hadn't played a single gig together as a band.

The movement was a nightmare.

Fall of 1997 to May of 2001.

And 5 months later the entire world changed, including music.

You sure you've got the spine to do that? You could self-incriminate.

Yeah. I was surprised when you listed it as nu metal. I checked and wiki confirms.
