I'll check that dictionary, but in the meantime I'm impressed - as is everyone else in the world - by your eloquence, obvious accomplishments and success, and the evidence of your blazingly high intelligence.

I can agree with this.

It's why people dig bands like Spaceman 3

Adam Neely is the worst kind of prescriptive music theory dork.

ok but what about his timbre?

A few responses:

1. "songwriting is about as important as what color shoes you wear compared to timbre and natural harmony" those are different things. Why not just say "forging horseshoes is as relevant as painting murals when it comes to lacing up your boxing gloves."

2. I thought you listened to punk? How isn't the timbre of punk just microtonal jazz composition?

3. My take from watching Adam Neely videos is that he's trying to expand people's understanding of what music is. Did he put out a video telling people they're trash?

So you what you are saying is that since people have preference of shoe color, then they also have a preference for a certain style of songwriting. The color of the shoes is representative of timbre and natural harmony as where the style of the shoe is the style of music or genre. eg Penny loafers would be Doo Wop & indie, wing tips would be big band, Chuck Taylor's for CBGB's bands, Brogans are Oi Punk, Doc Martins with red and white laces are Hardcore Punk, cowboy boots would be country music of course, and flip flops would be jam bands like Phish and the Grateful Dead. Until you mentioned it, I didn't know how strong a correlation there was between foot wear and music. Come to think of it, Shoegazers are called that cause they like looking at the color of their shoes.

How do you define "bad" then? I think Joanna Newsom sings like a fawn that's just been hit by a truck. And yet people praise her to no end. To me she's bad. And yet, known and loved.

The Offspring were just as good as contemporaries such as Green Day or Weezer in terms of good pop songwriting but for some odd reason never got the explosive hype as the other two.

And it looks like they have 3-4 Platinum albums and an almost permanent rock-radio staple in "Self Esteem." Still, does anyone naturally put them in the same categroy? (though that new single is rough)
