There are other good versions of All Along the Watchtower but Jimi's is the definitive version, the Dylan original doesn't get enough love though.

Agreed. It is possible for a solo to go on longer than it has to.

I remember reading that Zep used to play Dazed and Confused for up to 45 minutes. Not ever having heard it at that length, I wonder how it could be good.

It's not my favourite Zep tune, but I won't change the radio station if it's playing.

Mind you, there are some solos so good I could listen to an entire song's worth.
