POST ROCK SUCKS... ALL OF IT
From the short time I spent on this forum I noticed that here it's a big NO to say that an entire genre sucks, so this is truly unpopular opinion.

I can agree with you only partly - post rock in the 00's has become boring background music. I've already vented my frustration with it in a post rock thread, so I don't feel like repeating all that.

Godspeed and Sigur Ros says no.

But eh I'm not a big fan of post rock aside from those two and it's very overrated, like why do indie kids love that stuff so much? Well they have the right to like it but they DON'T have the right to listen to bands who simply drone on for 20 minutes without doing anything new for that period of time and then call Genesis boring wankery.

Booooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

I still think Who's Next is their best in the studio though.

In fact if there's one thing I fucking despise it's ANY of this horrible whimsical far too clever for itself indie folk with song titles that are either stupidly long or poor excuses for irony.
Indie folk truly is the bane of my existence. I like NMH and The Decemberists but that's about it. Elliott Smith is alright but truly one of the most overrated singer/songwriters of all time and his little twee voice is really damn annoying.

Oh c'mon. Talk Talk, Maudlin Of The Well and Kayo Dot are frequently classed as Post Rock bands and are far and above the cliched instrumental 'crescendo' sound that seems to be the epitome of Post Rock these days.

I myself have distanced myself from the genre due to the huge amount of faceless copycat bands making Movie instrumental soundtracks but there are or have been still a few decent bands around that push boundaries and have their own identity.
