No. It is just bleeding and getting kicked in the face in dive bars, basements and garages. It is hanging out in underground tunnels. Punk is very much alive, you just have to look hard to find it.

Unpopular Music Opinion:

The Filipino music industry is so fond of making or introducing singers, especially female singers that has some sort of resemblance or an exact representation of a western pop singer. for instance: we have Nina (Mariah Carey), Lani Misalucha (Whitney Houston), Zsa-Zsa Padilla (Barbara Streisand), Kyla (Alicia Keys), Jonalyn Viray (Christina Aguilera), Sarah Geronimo (Celine Dion), etc.

That's why if you're familiar with Charice Pempengco, she's like a mix of Whitney, Mariah and Celine. I like them for their amazing voices but sometimes, I get sick of it and wonder if they can make music that is original and does not have to be a mimicry of western music.

Most music is unoriginal.

Artists/bands are influenced by other artists/bands and the cycle continues and continues.

There isn't really any music that is original

Agreed. No idea is original anymore, it has all been done.

My feelings can be summed up with this song:

This ain't nothing really new
I said everything's been tried and true
Everything's been said and done 1000 times before

Nothing really goes out of style
I said it only goes away for a little while
Only to come charging right on through your door

So hey! Whatcha gonna do
Hey! To keep yourself amused
Hey! What can you do when everything's been used

[Chorus:]
Round and round and around it goes
Where it stops, no one knows
Nothing really changes it's a Retro World
Here it comes, baby, there it goes
It's getting harder to shoot my load
Nothing's really dangerous just a Retro World
Go!

No future dreams for you and me
A never-ending life of repeats
Forced to live out past mistakes again and again

This ain't nothing really new
I said everything's just tried and true
Sure the name may change but the product's still the same

So hey! Whatcha gonna do
Hey! To keep yourself abused
Hey! What can you do when everything's been used

[Rep't Chorus]

There is a lot of music that is original AND influenced by other bands. They've gotta get their stuff somewhere you know.

you can go ahead and keep thinking that but I bet the so called original music that you are thinking of isn't and can be compared to certain genres that predated it because they have to get their roots from somewhere to form this "original" music.

What matters more is if something is enjoyable and successful at what it is trying to do rather than whether it is just original. As I said in a thread someone did about originality I get suspicious of people who want to make big claims for originality, it makes me wonder if the actual music they support has much more to it beyond their originality claims.
