I hate grindcore, but I enjoy Genghis Tron. They're not entirely grindcore though. Lot of electronic stuff in there too. It's pretty sick. :pimp:
I would think that you, as a prog fan would enjoy it, but if you don't like the vocals, then I suppose not. |

So yeah, punk is ok I guess. |
I have a feeling this one will get me a bit of stick but it's been building for a while and I have to finally come out with it.
I fucking HATE Stoner Metal It's like someone took all the good bits out of psychadelia and replaced it with horrible chuggy metal guitar riffs. |
Boooo.
Kyuss <3 |
I tried
I tried Kyuss , Monster Magnet , Sleep and a few others. They all resulted in the same this. The realisation i'd rather be listening to Space Ritual or Volume 4 instead. Or even the first couple of UFO albums. |
Yeah, thats what gets me, if you like Black Sabbath and Hawkwind, I don't see why you wouldn't like stoner metal. :-/
|
That's what I thought but it just doesn't work for me.
I've noticed about the bands that I do listen to of any genre tend to be the originals , or the first wave of bands. After that I lose interest. I guess those bands don't offer me anything i've not heard before. |
Well I like stoner metal (mainly the more doomy type) and love Kyuss, but to be honest, I don't feel that it's that strongly linked with psychedelia. I don't doubt that the movement in the beginning was inspired by psychedelia, but nowadays, stoner metal seems to stand on its own.
Point being that when I listen to Sahg, Sleep or Starchild, it doesn't make me think of the vintage psychedelic gems of 1967-72, Gong, Hawkwind or the Ozrics. |
I think that could be why it doesn't work for me.
It's moved too far away from what I liked about it in the first place. I always though doomy guitars sound more natural with muddy 70s production. Thats another thing thats always put me off , it's like they're trying too hard to recreate something. |
