I always thought this was a Beach House affair until I gave it a listen. Now that I think about it, I like the album cover, but despise it giving me the impression it would be boring.

It's the color you see when your eyes are shut and in sunlight

eh it's not really that uncommon for blackgaze albums to have bright colors on them or feature flowers or other non-black metal-type things. Sunbather was just the one that hit it big for whatever reason.

I get a sense of reserved, possibly androgynous-sounding minimalism with an emphasis on serious-minded, though not po-faced, artistic exploration and experimentation. And definitely alternative rock. Although I think I may vaguely recognize the cover and associate it with alternative. Am I close?

On a related note I gotta say though, no matter how pretentious they might be, arty folk can still make statements that your more straightforward artists are often incapable of. "Slug Bait"'s lyrics and music are far more terrifying then anything Cannibal Corpse or Mayhem or even Macabre could ever hope to put out. Also, as legitimately creepy as "Hamburger Lady" is, "Slug Bait" definitely wins. How you can come up with that and not be just a little bit serial killery I can only speculate.

I'd imagine it was returned to record stores quite regularly by irate jazz funk fans. I think what's creepiest is that the album cover photo, as innocent as it looks, was taken at one of Britain's most notorious suicide hotspots.

It's black metal.

That's some mighty fine trollin'. I think that's possibly my favorite thing about that band. No matter how serious their material, they always made a point to be juvenile too.

You know, apart from it being black metal and not particularly minimalist, I wasn't too far off. I was thinking something a more along the lines of dream pop, but blackgaze has more than a little of the same vibe I had in mind.

To say Chris Brown is like Michael Jackson. Many people would hate that comparison. Some people do say that phrase.

Unpopular music opinion: Music Banter only cares about bickering, being in cliques and attacking others versus discussing music topics.

I was just waiting for someone to post that one.
