I got alot of backlash when I said I didn't like Jimi Hendrix even though I said i still respected him as a musician.

Like 99% of people have any idea why they say he's the greatest guitarist ever.

I think it's cause he's the only guitarist that knew how to play a psychedelic version of the USA anthem.

You can't deny his greatness though. He was wildly invented, usually playing lead and rhythm at the same time, managing to play riffs and also shred up the neck. He squeezed sounds out of that guitar that probably blew people's minds back then, and are still just like, damn

I doubt even people back then really knew what he was doing, they just thought it sounded different and cool. And now that the historical context is gone people just know that they like "Purple Haze" and it sounds pretty freakin' guitary.

Dark Star is a pretty good track, but it's clearly not doing for me what it does for you, Occult Hawk. Ditto Alligator that Mondo posted earlier; once again I'm stuck with "This is supposed to be brilliant, but I'm not feeling it."

He's easily the greatest guitarist ever.

There's this sense that if you don't like Jimi it's because you don't get him yet because obvs the guy was such a great musician everybody has to like him. Even ppl that don't really listen to his stuff can say how great he was because that's the general consensus. The reason I said I didn't like his music but respected it is because I don't regularly listen to his music. I may like a couple of songs by him but he doesn't play the kind of music I regularly will comeback to.

Ppl can name me a thousand reasons why I should like Jimi more but that won't coerce me to go against my taste because the reason I don't like him more is a matter of taste not talent.
