What I'm saying is what qualifies as avant-garde OR experimental is not nercessarily the same thing that qualifies what regular prog is. Of course it's possible, but avant-garde and experimental music are two very different things from the average prog album. You chose pretty obvious avant-prog for your examples, a from of prog that combines prog's more restrictive and ruled-over form of experimentation with the heavier and more unconventional experimentation avant-garde is known for. I'm saying the to are very different, but it is possible for a prog subgenre to carry them. My original statement had NOTHING to do with subgenres, not even synphonic prog.

1. Avant-Garde music is one genre. It's extremely unconventional, so there's no telling what the music may sound like.
2. Prog pays much more attention to musical structure and has a basic, common theme/sound/layout to prog.
3. Avant-Prog takes a little of both and combines the two.

Concluysion: all three are different genres, and Avant-Prog is a child. And there's your answer.

JGuy, yes or no--and I'll only accept a yes or no answer, I won't be interested in any other words you type, would you say there's a genre called "avant-garde experimentation"?

Here's what I asked: What are you basing your knowledge of who is/was or isn't/wasn't popular in the US on, just out of curiosity?

When people start doing that when they're disagreeing with me, I go minimal and focus on one small thing at a time, so that's what we'll do.
I am not saying that there were popular or not. It seem your interest is what is popular while my interest lies in what is mainstream and what is underground. I was sharing my opinion on some Acid Rock bands, Blues Rock bands from the UK & Ireland etc etc. trying to take a break from all the hair-splitting.

The only person I guess was more popular than you thought was Cliff Richard, based on the fact you didn't take into consideration his work with Andrew Lloyd Weber.

My unpopular opinion for today:
Stone The Crows were pretty tight as a band.
Maggie Bell was the first to sign to Swan Song so Zeppelin haters should extend their displeasure of Led Zeppelin to her.
Jimmy Page stole the sweater vest idea from Jimmy McCulloch.

@Terrapin station. Just ignore JGuy and Neapolitan. They just say some stupid stuff in an effort to support ideas with little to no foundation.

Yeah, I hadn't really noticed before now, but they both seem to follow the track of "Never directly address anything that might lead to any sort of concession or make one seem like not an expert; rather make oblique moves and type increasingly more words." It's the politician's gambit, basically.

Exactly!

I feel like I should say one unpopular opinion...

Grunge was an amazing genre, but one of the worst things that ever happened to the rock scene.

Honestly I did directly answer you, plenty of times. You ignore them and go on about what you think I meant, even after explaining what I meant. I say it again that I never commented on how how many fans Led Zeppelin had. All I did was agree with Chula about Led Zeppelin being underground. It's for various reasons, not all of them I mentioned.

I try to chit chat about bands to make it a little more friendly. I shared my thought on Progressive Rock. You end up complaining about oblique moves. You're still hung up on I don't know what.

Do you know how to not ramble on about nothing in your posts?
