I still like some vocal effects here and there, distortion and what not, I just can't stand the way autotune is used in today's pop music. It's like I heard that shit in way cooler music long ago, I don't need crappy pop stars making it trendy and worse. It seemed like it had a purpose back then, especially in industrial music. It was to make the voices sound otherworldly, demonic, robotic, scary or what have you. It fit the music. Today's pop? Hey listen to this cool effect! I can make my voice sound weird, cool! I dunno man, I just don't like it. But I don't listen to that kind of pop music anyway, like I said I rarely hear it, so it doesn't really affect me.
Yeah that's how I feel as well.

Autotune and other vocal effects are great when they're used in electronic, psychedelic, prog music because they have a cosmic sound to them that's really cool.

But the way it's overused in pop music (which is probably intended to hide the singer's lack of talent more than it is to suit the music) is incredibly annoying.

I like Zappa's fusion stuff the most of anything he's done.

The Grand Wazoo is amazing.

i disagree, loudly. had you said Hybrid Theory and Meteora, I would've agreed. Reanimation wasn't consistent enough and the remixes were generally a bit naff, Collision Course was fairly average and Minutes To Midnight was just plain ****ing awful.

Woops, I wasn't counting Reanimation and Collision Course.

MTM is easily the worst of the three, but I don't think it's anywhere to close to "awful".

Immensely unpopular opinion:

I love Zappa's Sheik Yerbouti and Joe's Garage. It's mostly due to good memories I have listening to the albums while smoking copious amounts of marijuana with my best friend many years ago.

Since when is it unpopular to think either of those albums are great?
