Best and favourite should be interchangeable imo, but that's an old, boring conversation.

Clear Spot is accessible enough for casual listener company imo. Unconditionally Guaranteed is so corny for me that I'd consider it his most inaccessible record.

Nope.

Favourite = one I like best

Since "best" is subjective, then the terms become interchangeable.

Yeah, maybe you're right. What word should we use for "the one I most often prefer"?
Is UG downright his worst album, iyo?

Yup. Even Bluejeans and Moonbeams has a decent track or two.

It is written:
Trout Mask Replica>Ice Cream for Crow>Doc at the Radar Station>Lick My Decals Off, Baby>Shiny Beast (Bat Chain Puller)>Safe As Milk>Mirror Man>Clear Spot>Bongo Fury>Strictly Personal>The Spotlight Kid>Legendary A&M Sessions>Bluejeans & Moonbeams>Unconditionally Guaranteed

Probably.

i can acknowledge that my personal favourite is not an artist's best work, for instance if i liked it for nostalgic reasons or reasons that are very uniquely personal to me. i think it's called cognitive dissonance.

Music appreciation in itself is a personal experience. From where I sit, assigning the label of "best" to an album while thinking that another one is better is just arbitrary conformity. Don't devalue your own opinion man*!

*don't get too wrapped up in it either

Very cool!! Thanks for pointing the direction!
Would be neat to know more of his Merrel Fankhauser times. Did he share the UFO and/or Mu beliefs of Fankhauser, for example? But yeah, really interesting interview nonetheless.

Also noticed this Youtube channel has extensive interviews with Zoot Horn Rollo and Drumbo aswell. Will listen to them tomorrow, most def. Nice.

Here are the interviews of Drumbo and Zoot Horn Rollo, for those of you interested:

Spoiler for Show:

Spent what felt like the entire day yesterday getting through these, and also watched the 2006 documentary Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band Under Review which go through the entire discography of the Captain. It was a good day, but I can't stop to wonder: AM I THE ONLY ONE ON THIS PLANET LIKING UNCONDITIONALLY GUARANTEED?? Everyone in these aformentioned sources show alot of hatred towards this album. Anyone joining my camp?

Anyhow. The Magic Band apparently hated the album and all quit the band afterwards, but what I wasn't aware of was that they together formed another band, Mallard, which they talk of briefly in some interviews. What do you guys think of these albums? Mallard (1975), and In a different climate (1976)

I kind of liked them. The second slightly more than the first.
Slightly skewed dad-rock kind of americana-ish feel to it, not very similar to the Magic Band.
