Its not that I don't like them or their music, but when you look at so many good artist that have cut their life so short at a young age mainly because of drugs it can be quite disturbing at times. Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain, and the list just goes on. What kind of music could have all of these artist went on to produce through the years, we will just never know.

that's just cause they did hard drugs which impede, rather than support the creative process

i don't think marijuana is any more harmful than cigarettes and alcohol

I see what your saying, but I personally think that alcohol is worse and more dangerous than most drugs are. (If your a lead vocalist..Kool-Aid or Gatorade). Or a nice cup of hot tea with a little honey added...no wait, tea has caffeine in it. Oh hell! just drink whiskey strait, that's always a good remedy guaranteed to bring the best out of a lead vocalist:rolleyes:. (just kidding of course)

Far away in a land that most people don't inhabit anymore, they used to have a fishbowl on the piano in Jazz clubs in the 40's that would be full of roaches. Its been going on for along time, for better or worse and that said, drugs have been good for some and bad for others but the bottom line is that you should be able to perform without it, otherwise it's about the drugs and not the music.

David Crosby said in his autobiography that he got into it due to the boredom of waiting around to go for shows. Probably not every musician's rationale but it will serve.

I don't think that marijuana is bad in any way, shape or form for a performer. Drinking to excess is also bad during shows, but having a drink or two to loosen up isn't condemnable behavior in my eyes.

Nor is taking psychedelics when not performing. When taken in moderation, they really do allow for unrestricted, flowing thought processes and new ways of thinking / comprehending. It could aid in the creative process, but should by no means be necessary to the creative process.

Well... I'm pretty sure smoking anything (marijuana or otherwise) isn't very good for your lungs...

Is there actually any scientific proof of this? I keep hearing it weakens your creative process, but then I hear from others saying the opposite. Anyone care to shed some light on this?
