Yeah I see your point, too many significant bands. I'd like to include them, but it seems like a long shot when all is said and done. There may be a need for a personal honorable mention section when this is all said and done.

Honorable mention is a cop out. Everytime I see one I think "here are the bands im supposed to like."

Either you have a top 50, or you do not. Pick the ones you like. I'm sorry but they're not your children, you can cut some out.

I say you include 311 in your list the day you can walk up to a music fan outside of North America ,ask about them & not get the reply "who??????"

there is well over a billion people in china and india that would say "who?" to 95% of that list.... does that make them suck just because not everyone has heard of them? 311 has released TONS of QUALITY albums (only one bad one in my opinion) and they have a unique style. i think they deserve to be on that list... exactly where they are.

311 have a respectable career. But I don't see them having any kind of lasting impact or influence that the other bands on that list have.

I'm not saying they suck , i'm saying they've only had any impact in a few countries. Plenty of bands have sold millions in Europe , Australia & Japan yet are not on that list because they never broke North America. So why should a band who have done the opposite (IE broke North America yet little anywhere else) be on there

5 of your top 7 are British.

And of the 2 American artists in that top 7 one (Hendrix)had to come to Britain to establish himself.
