Foo Fighters are probably one of the most overrated bands of all time.
What redeeming qualities does the band have?

Someone please explain.

It depends who is rating these acts to be honest. Music geeks like us are harder to please so we under rate a lot of stuff the mainstream over rate.

I think Dave Grohl figured out a formula for a great pop rock song and now he sticks to it. Foo Fighters are great for someone who doesn't want to think too much about their music.

That said, I still love their debut. It just feels really honest. Like a much more humbled Dave. He knew he would be compared to Nirvana and Kurt and I think that apprehension comes out in the music making it much better, in my opinion.

I've seen them live a couple of times and they can certainly put on a good show, so they do deserve some credit for that. But their albums never seem to stray away from being safe and middle-of-the-road. I do like some of their songs though, such as 'Everlong' and 'My Hero', but I have no interest in listening to any of their albums these days. It's just modern rock for the masses, accessible rock for those who only have a passing interest in music.

I have to disagree with you 110% on that last statement. I love music, and I love the Foo Fighters. Sure it might be what you call "generic" rock. But I think they are awesome and far from generic. When I think of generic rock bands, I think of bands like Three Days Grace, Sick Puppies, Creed etc.

I'm no musician and I don't claim to be an expert in music or musical theory. So the members of this board might view me as "Musically retarded".

I'm not a musician either, and to be honest I couldn't care less about music theory. I used to be a bit of a fan of Foo Fighters, and I still see them as being better and more worthwhile than the dreary snoozefest of Creed and Three Days Grace. But compared to a lot of music out there that's unconventional or made without any real desire to be accepted by the mainstream I still see Foo Fighters as being fairly middle-of-the-road and formulaic.

A good band, but theyve never beaten their first album. Their last release may have been one too many-much like the offspring, they need new ideas and to try something no one would expect, instead of rehashing everything thats gone before.. to regain my interest at least, before I fall asleep with the rather high level of radio friendliness

They got the former Nirvana drummer. He has turned out to be one of the most talented men I have seen for some time. Foo Fighters are a excellent Rock band.

Their new album is great sonically. Pile of garbage in the songwriting department.
