Million Dead

Million Dead were England's answer to At the Drive-In. Releasing two albums and a handful of EPs Million Dead had a short but prolific career breaking up in 2005 saying they'd "rather leave a good-looking corpse."

Fronted by Frank Turner who idolizes Black Flag and was known for his intense vocal delivery going from melodic singing to something between rapping and screaming with bizarre political lyrical themes. Million Dead played post-hardcore ranging from a more soft style that can out of nowhere explode into a frenzy and sometimes was just a frenzy all the way through. Similar to Reuben, Hundred Reason and At the Drive-In.

Members went onto form and play in Frank Turner, Pale Horse, Armed Response Unit and the Quiet Kill.

2. I Gave My Eyes To Stevie Wonder
3. I'll Never Forget You (Husker Du Cover)
4. Smiling at Stranger on Trains

Daniel Johnston

Daniel Johnston has always been an artist's artist though hes gained somewhat of a cult following over the years particularly due to the documentary the Devil and Daniel Johnston. He's been acclaimed by everyone from grunge musicians Kurt Cobain and Eddie Vedder to classic rocker David Bowie to indie veterans Sonic Youth, Beck, Yo La Tengo and the Flaming Lips and to current indie sensations Bright Eyes, Death Cab for Cutie and Okkervil River.

Daniel Johnston's music could range from piano driven, to just an acoustic guitar to a full band (all instruments usually played by Johnston himself.) Johnston cited the Beatles, particularly Lennon as his biggest influences though they aren't apparent in his music. His lyrics were often childish to match his voice that at times could be painful but was always honest.

1. Devil Town
2. Mind Contorted
3. True Love Will Find You In the End
4. Love Will See You Through
5. Some Things Last a Long Time
6. Crazy Love
7. Lennon Song

Morrissey

Former Smiths frontman Morrissey's solo career is at times horrible and other times brilliant. Luckily the latter outweighs the former. Morrissey's lyrics have always been full of wit, political controversy and sad tales, his solo career is no exception. You either love him or hate him, but you know who he is. He rails against society without resorting to tubthumping. His lyrics are laced with bittersweet ironies and speak of an England we all secretly would like to see.

1. America Is Not The World
2. Everyday Is Like Sunday
3. Interesting Drug
4. You're The One For Me, Fatty
5. The More You Ignore Me, The Closer I Get
6. My Love Life
7. Lifeguard Sleeping, Girl Drowning
8. Seasick, Yet Still Docked
9. Late Night, Maudlin Street

I'm really digging this, which of his albums would you recommend? Love Me, I'm A Liberal was a great song and his voice is great on That Was A President.

I Ain't Marching Anymore is generally considered his best. I've never been able to track any of his stuff down all I have is a 22 song sampler.

Also out of boredom I briefly wrote up reviewish type things of each artist, the ones i'm more passionate about (The Smiths, Elliott Smith) are longer than the ones i'm less passionate about. I don't know which is more informative since the longer ones are basically me just going on about how great the are and the short ones are more to the point. I'll probably fix them later.
