Lansing-Dreiden - The Incomplete Triangle

http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/image...1ad2c010.L.jpg

Sigh...one of my favorite albums of the 00s, sadly overlooked every time I mention it, and barely known elsewhere too. A strange yet cohesive mixture of post-punk, baroque pop, dream pop, shoegaze, 80s-ish electronic beats, garage and even metal (not all in every song, of course). Great melodies and vocals throughout.

This first one's from a different release but I posted it on YT this AM. Really shows the beauty of some of their songs. The following two are from the album I posted.

prof_putnic 05-20-2010 11:58 AM

The new BoB album is pretty hot at the moment, with airplanes being the best on it

Everything But the Girl - Temperamental

This album's so sexy you can set off smoke alarms by listening to it too loud. One of the ultimate night-listening albums.

'Into the Ocean' and 'X Amount of Words' have been favorites for a long time, but the whole album really is phenomenal.

The Black Keys - Brothers (2010)

I'm really enjoying this album, far more than their previous few releases. It's not quite as hard as their first three albums, but it's solid and has a nice neo-psychedelic sound to it, plus it's quite melancholy without being whiny. Great white boy blues-rock.

The Sadies - Darker Circles (2010)

I haven't enjoyed a true alt. country album this much since I found Deer Tick back in November. I only had their 2004 release, Favourite Colours which I didn't really like that much but I didn't want to write off this band because they're Canadian and similar to Elliott BROOD in a few ways, but I just wasn't having it with that album. Well luckily Darker Circles came along and completely reversed my opinion on the band. I'm not really up to date as to what's coming out country wise this year but if nothing else is, then this is my favourite alt. country album of the year.

Other Men - Wake Up Swimming

http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/image...32d81110.L.jpg

Dammit I love this album. It's like Pinback on math. Similar melodies, and the vocals (and bass) of Rob Crow, but mostly faster and more playful. Very skillfully played, with a fair dose of slower parts that are more reminiscent of Pinback, but then they escalate back into mathy fun. I just posted this vid on YT, one of my favs:

Here's another that was already there, unfortunately it's quiet and a bit low quality. So turn it up! A good one but not my favorite. Pretty well representative though.

Simply because you just posted two awesome albums (Built and Minus) AND compared this album to Pinback, I'm going to download it

I am hopelessly addicted to this album. Julie Christmas' voice is amazing. I'd normally try to describe albums I dig myself but I don't think I can put it in better words than this:

Do yourself a favor and check it out.

Midnight Oil's Live @ Ronnie Scott's bootleg.

I think I listen to it more than their studio albums these days. Fantastic bootleg.

^^Seconded... That bootleg is pants-explodingly amazing. Your post has inspired me to listen to it again.

They've always been in my library, but it's not until lately I've realized how much I ****ing love them

Sljslj 05-23-2010 08:15 PM

Someone probably already mentioned it, but Devin Townsend's "Ki" blows my mind every day. It's ****ing fantastic. Lamb Of God's "Wrath" and Behemoth's "Evangelion" are amazing recent albums as well.

I'm gonna give some examples of good tracks from each of the aforementioned albums:
Wrath: The opening "The Passing" is enjoyable, "Set To Fail" and "Fake Messiah" are also very good tracks.
Evangelion: "Ov Fire And The Void", "The Seed Ov I", and "Alas, The Lord Is Upon Me".
Ki: Honestly, this whole album is great and it was hard for me to pick the high-points, but here goes... "Trainfire" (didn't care much for this one at first, but it's really grown on me.), "Heaven Send" (my personal favorite), and "Gato".

Sigh - Imaginary Sonicscape (2001)

Such an amazing blend of symphonic black metal, avant garde metal, with progressive undertones. This album is just such a trip and easily the best starting point for newcomers to the Japanese black metal band Sigh.

You know, I've tried to get into these guys. Meaning I've played and gave the albums my undivided attention ... A few times now because a very close friend is crazy about them, but I just don't get it.

Exeggcute :3 05-24-2010 03:32 AM

Well, quite clearly Immersion by Pendulum right now. A few others that I've been listening too recently as well are:

Join the Q - The Qemists
Drop - Mistabishi

I'm seriously obsessed with this album, they've almost got more plays than Gaga this week & I've managed to force other people into liking them :)

Here4theBeer 05-24-2010 05:27 AM

A couple I like at the moment

Flaming Lips - Soft Bulletin
the dbs - Stands for Decibels
Olivia Tremor Control - Peel Sessions

All very good music.

Bethany Curve - You Brought Us Here

This was a pleasant surprise. A totally random decision that turned out to be pretty much pure awesome. If what you like about shoegaze is the crazy ethereal soundscapes that are made by waves of guitar that make you want to just crawl into the sound and live there...I do believe you should check these guys out. One of the best shoegaze finds I've had in a while.

Fireside - Fantastic Four

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA300_.jpg

1994 debut LP from this little-known Swedish post-hardcore band. Their sound is sort of like a less hardcore Quicksand.

Bulldog 05-24-2010 03:37 PM

Just finished an absolute bastard of an essay that's been hanging over me all of last week, and for whatever reason this feels the perfect thing to have on after all that rubbish. Probably my favourite of the man's earlier albums (although I'll probably listen to the Good Son or Let Love In again and change my mind...again).

Shane MacGowan & the Popes - The Snake
http://images.uulyrics.com/cover/s/s...-the-snake.jpg

Just as good as, and a lot more rocked-up than anything he did with the Pogues. If it weren't or a super-lame Sinead O'Connor duet, it'd be among my favourite albums.

I've always liked the band, but i saw them live a few nights ago and they really just blew me away - that reminded me of how incredibly great this album is!
it's sort of dark, but never depressing and the vocal is really interesting and different.

Ooh, good start! Sketches of Spain is one of my favorite Miles albums. If you're brave, go on a dive into some Bitches Brew or my absolutely favorite miles album, Live-Evil.

ALWAYS post the artist and album name...plus a few words on the genre/style/overall description of the album would be cool. I only say this to you because I like the artwork but I have no effing clue what that is.

okay sorry (: i thought that you could read it of the picture, but i can see now that you can't.

I Got You On Tape - Spinning For The Cause

I'm really bad at genres and at describing music, but it's sort of indie/alternative rock, but not in an upbeat happy way (if that makes sense..).

you should listen to it :) it is a really great band!

duga 05-26-2010 11:12 AM

Much obliged. Thanks for the vids as well. I didn't mean to come off snarky or anything...it just happens that there are a lot of posts here with really cool artwork and no description. I'm all for checking out an album based solely off artwork, but most of the time it is too much work.
