Been hugely digging on this blackhandpath mixtape that Goofle posted a while ago.

The Pop Group - Y

I've been spinning this album quite a bit ever since Citizen Zombie came out. Some of the wildest, sporadic, you-took-too-much-acid post punk you'll ever hear that doesn't self-identify as no wave. The fantastic vocals really make it for me, but literally everything else about this album helps me love it.

I enjoyed Citizen Zombie. My first foray into post-punk?, and I loved it. I'll give this album a go as well. Is there any essential post-punk albums I should check out?

Glad you liked it man, but be warned that Y sounds like an entirely different band than TPG's sound on Cotizen Zombie. Like Goof said, there's tons and tons and tons of great post punk out there and that list looks pretty good. Here are a few of my favourites:

This Heat - Deceit
Gang of Four - Entertainment!
The Fall - Hex Enduction Hour
Public Image Ltd. - First Issue
The Birthday Party - Prayers on Fire
Glenn Branca - The Ascension

Joy Division's Unknown Pleasures is a classic too. I'm not too crazy about it myself but it's worth checking out.

Sun Kil Moon - Universal Themes

I was nervous going into this. Didn't have real big expectations (although I'm not sure why tbh.) A lot of Benji's high-points resonated well with me, yet some of the other tracks wore off their appeal after awhile. With this album however, my fears were struck down and my expectations were toppled. This is the ****. It's still fresh to me with a lot to swallow, but I'm lovin' it. It's an appropriate evolution for Benji 2 and I'm consistently digging these styles. Once It's more established in my mind I'm hoping I'll love some of these as much as Carissa, Truck Driver, Jim Wise, I Watched the Film the Song Remains the Same, Richard Ramirez Died Today of Natural Causes and Micheline.

This year I think is definitely crushing 2014 for me. There's still a lot to come and some unconfirmed hopefuls.

JOANNA NEWSOM WHEN.

This is still one of the best albums ever as far as I'm concerned.

Also:
Surf by Donnie Trumpet and the Social Experiment is actually really very good.
