Slowdive - Slowdive

I'm always wary of reunion albums, but daammnn this is good. What a return to form. It not only hits all the Slowdive notes you would want (especially if your only exposure to the band is Souvlaki), but it takes them into new territory. This sounds like a band that left for 20 years and spent those 20 years figuring out how to shame everyone that dismissed them the first time around. And Neil Halstead's voice has matured into this rough "I used to be a shoegazer then I became an alcoholic" sound that really works with the music.

Two thumbs up.

You need to listen to Electric Magnolia Co. right now. It's their best album. Check this sh*t out.

Nightlands - I Can Feel The Night Around Me (2017)

A modern, somewhat acidic take on lite prog and 70's Californian pop-rock from the dude who fronts The War On Drugs. If the idea of Pink Floyd, Toro y Moi, The Beach Boys and Ambrosia hopping into a blender and coming out as the score to a sequel to David Lynch's Blue Velvet sounds appealing, this will be your AOTY.
