Oh wait he's actually a member of Garbage - I didn't realize that. Not a fan of any songs I have heard though. True that recent stuff - including Garbage IMO - is not very interesting. Foo Fighters? Bleh.

Maybe Daydream Nation is a good starting point, 'cause not only is it a great album (one of their very best), it also ties together their early deconstructive phase to their more rock oriented one.

Daydream Nation was my start but it took a few spins - spread out over some time - to really enjoy it. I think it's a bit too long for a starter album.

Crywank- James Is Going To Die Soon

As a 20 year old sad sack, I really relate to this 20 year old sad sack, his lyrics are great, and he sings with great passion too. I can listen to this all day.

Crywank - isn't that what you do when you don't have a girlfriend?

That is probably the greatest alias for a musician that I've ever heard of in my life.

Zing. Not bad, not bad. That's actually a variation of how he got that nickname.

Agreed. I'm downloading it pretty much based on that alone.
Although the description offered doesn't hurt.

DJ Shadow - Endtroducing

I was very interested to get my hands on this (it helped that the person who told me about it was completely psyched), but when I downloaded it, I just had this feeling that all the songs would sound the same and bleed together. Not so. Surprisingly eclectic, each song had me eager to hear what the next one would sound like, how it would be different. A funky/trippy/ambient/jazzy hip hop album...just what I've needed lately.

Thanks Satchmo.

The Pain Teens are a female fronted 90s noiserock band. This is my favorite album in their discog. Its hard and interesting with moments of vulnerability and absolutely brilliant lyrics.
There's also an ode to the abortion pill.

Quicksand - Slip (1993)

http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/image...b1f3d110.L.jpg

I've had this album for quite some time, but bob.'s recent post (mini song review thread?) prompted me to throw it on the 'ol iPod. Really a kickin' album straddling the line between post-hardcore and "alternative rock" in the 90s (more post-hardcore than mainstream, but nearly as accessible as Helmet was around Meantime). Obviously there is some Fugazi influence, but many people - myself included - detect similaries with early Tool. So mash those 3 sounds together - bam. They also often remind me of Fireside, a Swedish post-hardcore band that had a bit less abrasive yet rougher sound - almost like a Quicksand-lite. They released their debut a year after Slip came out - but formed in 92. So if you like this maybe check out Fireside's Fantastic Four (94) and Do Not Tailgate (95).
