^I'll be checking that one out. How does it compare to As the Veneer of Democracy Starts to Fade? Your description sounds a bit similar but Veneer was released under just Stewart, sans The Mafia.

I'd say Cowardice is a lot more bass-heavy, and a lot closer to conventional dub reggae in sound. Veneer on the other hand still seems to me to have dub at its core, but focuses a lot more on the atmospherics and isn't quite as rhythmic - it's a lot more noisy and anarchic.

They're both pretty fantastic albums, but really different stylistically when you line them up side by side. Anyone who's into any of Mark Stewart's work should definitely check both albums out if you ask me.

Vibracathedral Orchestra - The Queen of Guess

Some really ****ing epic drone that isn't abrasive or confrontational in any way, which is pretty rare for the genre (they're usually harsh or not interesting). With their hypnotic crescendos and experimentalism, they remind me of Swans at times, but these guys really take their own direction and I love it. If you want to or you've never been able to get into drone music, I can't think of a better album to start off with.

Braids - Deep in the Iris - ****ing phenomenal third LP, probably going to be my AOTY.
Sufjan Stevens - Carrie and Lowell - really good. folksy return for him with some electronics around the edges, quite pretty.
Lightning Bolt - The Metal East - noisy and harsh as ****, makes me want to rampage around town with a baseball bat wrapped in pillows (because it also is happy and fun).
Inventions - Maze of Woods - 2nd LP from the Eluvium/Explosions in the Sky collab. Ambient/droney, gorgeous.
