Pink Fairies - Kings of Oblivion (1973)

Awesome '70s guitar-driven rock channeling glam rock and proto-punk into a tight package, commandeered by the former Deviants frontman. Comparisons to the Damned are inevitable (though this predates their existence by some four years), it's really eerie how similar the two sound. Definitely a keeper.

The Comsat Angels - Sleep No More (1981)

Somewhat dated production, but the songs are fantastic, easily besting contemporaries such as the Sound & Magazine. Superbly crafted atmospheres yield a potential few singles, shame this album never seemed to garner that much attention. In particular "Eye Dance" is well worth a listen.

I didn't really appreciate this when I first heard it but now I'm in love and listening a lot recently. It's quite catchy stuff.

Black Moth Super Rainbow - Dandelion Bubblegum

I just got this yesterday and I think I've already spun it 4 or 5 times now... it's just so relaxing, engaging, catchy, upbeat, and euphoric. Seriously everyone please I implore you, go out and get this record, because if you don't, the terrorists win.

Starting pushing through the massive cache I picked up, there are some real gems here. While it's still fresh, here's two of the better ones:

Alice Coltrane - Journey in Satchidananda (1970)

Wonderful free jazz ensemble led by a poetically spiritual composer named Alice Coltrane (no relation to John) filled to the brim with lush melodies and some great improvisation. I have no idea where Satchidananda is but it sounds lovely.

Donny Hathaway - Everything Is Everything (1970)

I have no heard soul this soulful in quite some time. The vocals are just as good as Gaye ever was, and the funky instrumental interludes bring the music to a whole new caliber. Another pianist, this guy commanded impressive control over both his voice and his instrumental talents, no doubt about that.

Both I heavily recommend to anyone who has a nominal interest in soul or jazz. These are easily five-star albums.

Les Discrets - Les Discrets

After getting blown away by Septembre Et Ses Dernières Pensées I knew I had to get this. It is a side project by Fursy Teyssier who is/was involved with projects such as Peste Noire, Alcest, Amesoeurs, Arctic Plateau, Neun Welten, and The American Dollar. Simply a gorgeous blend of shoegaze and post rock.

The Fall - Our Future, Your Clutter

Still no sign of the artwork anywhere online, but bloody hell is this album brilliant. The basslines are phenominal, and the rest of it makes for such a rowdy, garage-ey album. Easily their best album in years - what a start to the decade they've just made for themselves.
