10. White Stripes - Elephant - This was the first album I purchased after I completed basic training. Soon after I heard the first chords play on the first song I knew it would be one I remembered.

9. Nirvana - MTV Unplugged in New York - Best live album of the 90's. Shows how great Nirvana was by stripping down their arrangements. I've burned a hole in the CD listening to it so much (figuratively).

8. Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon
- This is the album when I actually started to understand my father's opinion in music and I started to embrace more and more of the music he listened to growing up (he was born in 1949).

7. Meat Loaf - Bat Out of Hell
- album that showed me what great songwriting, vocals, and production can bring. This is another album that was introduced to me by my father and was played through out my childhood.

6. The Wallflowers - Bringing Down The Horse
- This is an album that came out soon a year before I started high school. It soon became the my most listened album during that time.

5. Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes - This album helped remind that music can still be melodic. It really breaks me away from my reality.

4./3./2. Franz Ferdinand/Kings of Leon/The Killers - Franz Ferdinand/Aha Shake Heartbreak/Hot Fuss - These were albums that were first released in the UK that I bought while living in England. These albums help me remember the good times I had over there with my wife.

1. Bob Dylan - Blood on the Tracks - Bob broke me away from all the crappy music that people were listening to in my high school. He really opened up and broadened the horizons of my music tastes. Though this wasn't the first album I listened from him it certainly is best.

My Top 10 Albums are probably outside compared to the past posts, but anyway i'll post them

#10 - Maroon 5 - It Won't Be Soon Before Long -. One of my favorite bands of all time. This album has one of my favorite songs to listen to "Wake Up Call". Plus, the album's sound is amazing.

#9 - John Mayer - Continuum -. His voice works perfectly with the music, and I love many of the songs. "Belief", "Gravity", "Waiting On the World to Change"

#8 - Pink - Funhouse- Pink is the bomb!! Her voice is amazing and she writes amazing lyrics. "So What", "I Don't Believe You", "Funhouse", "Please Don't Leave Me" are my favorite tracks.

#7 - Melanie C - This Time- This album is probably one of the best albums of 2007. The songs are so personal and the lyrics are amazing. "This Time", "Carolyna" and "Your Mistake" are my favorites.

#6 - David Cook - David Cook. The Season 7 Winner of American Idol starred off with a bang!! This is probably my favorite debut album from a AI winner (After Kelly Clarkson). "Come Back to Me", "Life on the Moon" are my favorites.

#5 - Brandy - Human- Brandy Is one of the best R&B singers of all time. And this album has all the aspects of a good album. Great lyrics, great music, and a great voice!! "Right Here (Departed)", "Long Distance", "A Capella (Something's Missing) and "The Definition" are my favorites

#4 - Kelly Clarkson - All I Ever Wanted. Kelly Clarkson is my favorite singer of all-time and if I could put all her albums on this list I would. This album proves that Kelly is here to stay and she can sing ANYTHING!!. She belts out the high notes in the slow songs and has fun in the fast songs.
"My Life Would Suck Without You"; "I Do Not Hook Up"; "Already Gone", "If I Can't Have You", and "All i Ever Wanted" are my favorite tracks

#3 - Taylor Swift - Fearless. Taylor Swift is probably the biggest country singer right now. And the songs she writes are amazing, because she uses characters in her lyrics and they tell a really great story that makes you want to hear it again and again. "Love Story", "You Belong With Me", "Fearless", "You're Not Sorry" are my favorites

#2 - Michael Jackson - Dangerous. The KING OF POP WILL ALWAYS LIVE. And this album that was released in 1993 proves why he was an entertainer. The songs all had different themes, love, hope, pain, confidence, etc.
"Black or White", "Remember the Time", "In the Closet" and "Heal the World" are my favorites

#1 - Kelly Clarkson - My December. The 2007 album of Kelly Clarkson, that created so much controversy. All I can say is.....Clive Davis....you're wrong!!. This album is the best album I've heard!! It's so personal and it tells a great story, and all the songs in there are great. Maybe it's not one of those #1 hit-makers, but it's great proof that taking risks, like Kelly did, works, because she came out with a great album!!
"Never Again", "One Minute", "Sober", "Don't Waste Your Time", "Be Still", "Maybe" and "How I Feel" are my favorites

What's The Story? by Oasis
The first album I ever got into.

Led Zeppelin IV by Led Zeppelin
My favourite Led Zeppelin album, when I first heard Rock N Roll and Black Dog, it just changed my experience of rock music forever.

In An Aeroplane Over The Sea by Neutral Milk Hotel
Beautiful, I never realised it had much hype surrounding it for a while after I listened to it, I thought it was a hidden gem and I just loved it, I found it by chance and it really made it better. If I heard it with a load of hype surrounding it, it wouldn't have been as good.

Nevermind by Nirvana
Smells Like Teen Spirit was one of the first songs I learnt on a guitar, first solo too. I have so many memories with this album, to me every lyric is just brilliant. I still listen to this album a lot.

The Queen Is Dead by The Smiths
I couldn't believe the sound of the guitar, and I couldn't believe how brilliant the lyrics were, so full of wit and intelligence.

Rated R by Queens Of The Stone Age
Nicotine, Valium, Vicodin, Marijuana, Ecstasy and Alcoholllllll.

Unknown Pleasures or Closer by Joy Division
I prefer the greatest hits in some ways, but either of these were just brilliant. So depressive yet melodic as well, they just appealed to me.

Electric Warrior by T.Rex
I never really 'got' glam rock, then I started to listen to track 1. Underneath the mambo sun, I've got to be the one with youuuu.
I just loved this album, couldn't get enough of it when I heard it.

Either/Or by Elliott Smith
Beautiful.

Help! by The Beatles
Not my favourite Beatles album, but it's the one that got me into the band.

EDIT:

How could I forgot Siamese Dream?!

Duga's post reminded me, I feel ashamed for forgetting it. that deserves to be in my list, I may have to re-do it sometime.

Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream
Undoubtedly the album that started an obsessive hunger for music. This album inspired a continuing obsession with all things guitar, and got me through some rough times.

Soundgarden - Superunknown
Another album that got me through some tough times. It also sparked an obsession with grunge.

The Mars Volta - De-loused In the Comatorium
Showed me how progressive and experimental music could be close to transcendental.

Led Zeppelin - Box Set
To this day I have yet to hear a proper Zeppelin album...the box set covered most of their material and the way the songs are ordered mean more to me than trying to get used to an album. Opened the door to classic rock.

Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon
After heading into a classic rock phase, I figured it was time to give Pink Floyd a try. I was amazed.

Deftones - White Pony
There was a time when I was saturated with Nu Metal and these guys helped pull me out of it for the simple fact that they were lumped in with them, but were obviously much more talented.

Radiohead - Hail to the Thief
This is the album that opened my eyes to "growers". I had listened to Radiohead before this album, but thought it was total crap. One day I sat down and forced myself to give them another try (hell, I bought their albums) and soon realized how wrong I was. This opened a whole new door of music to me.

Rush - Moving Pictures
The album that sparked my interest in early progressive rock.

Cocteau Twins - Heaven Or Las Vegas
This album got me through a truly terrible time in my life. Not only was the music beautiful, but it ended a music dry spell that was going through for a while.

Elliot Smith - Either/Or
Words can't describe this album. Kicked in an obsession with acoustic music.

10. Type O Negative - October Rust: Until I heard this I never thought metal could be so melodic, groove filled and sensuous... with even a dawsh or two of humour... This album played a big role in the darkening of my tastes

9. Pearl Jam - Vitalogy: I didn't jump aboard the whole grunge boat till way later into the nineties, and it was the musical diversity, the heartbreaking lyrics and the sense of adventurous songwriting on this album that won me over.

8. Cold Feeling - The Underground Lovers: This album is by an Aussie alt rock band that gradually added more and more electronic elements enter its sound... this album definitely whetted my appetite for more electronic sounds.

7. Diesel and Dust - Midnight Oil: The Oils were the first band I ever really seriously got into. There's so much about this album that I still identify with, especially since I have moved away from home country which this album's lyrics describe quite vividly in places...

6. Sunset Studies - Augie March: This album fed my thirst for enigmatic storytelling in lyrics, teamed with beautiful ambience and melody. Even today when I listen to it, it still feels like something very special.

5. Mellon Collie and The Infinite Sadness - The Smashing Pumpkins: This album has and continues o have everything for me... angst, loathing, rage and finally some sense of peace. It was also the soundtrack to some of the most tumultuous years of my younger life. People complain about it, it's length etc, but in my humble opinion it is just perfect.

4. Us - Peter Gabriel: Though this is possibly not the greatest Gabriel solo album, it is still so full of incredibly strong songs, emotional singing and sublime rhythm / melody combinations. I list it here because it totally got the ball rolling in terms of my Peter Gabriel love.

3. THE lamb Lies Down on Broadway - Genesis: As a concept it can be something of a tangled mess, but there are so many wonderful musical / lyrical ideas bursting to get out of the seams here... still my favorite early Genesis album.

2. Automatic for The People - R.E.M: What can I say, this album taught me that music can be luke a good therapy... you can cry with it, feel those all important emotions and somehow leave reinvigorated...

and as for my nummber one.... well thats an even split...

Act of Free Choice - David Bridie: taught me that there was great atmosphere and anticipation in beautiful poetry and beautifully subtle atmospherics...

After Everything Now Thhis - The Church: My first album purchase from my now favorite band... and it's an amazing reflection on love, loss, unfufilled desires and some of the other ills of modernity.... and every damn track is a standout...

10. - Throwing Copper : Live
The first album I bought on CD was about 12-13 played it over and over will always have a special place in my heart.

9. - Vs : Pearl Jam
Again another early purchase. I think Daughter is the first song I learnt all the words to, this album is where I learnt I was a rocker.

8. - Nevermind : Nirvana
Blew me the **** away.

7. - And Justice For All : Metallica
The catylast for my teenage metal years... enter tight black jeans black metal shirt, flannel and desert boots. Ah the halcyon years fond memories.

6. - Vulgar Display Of Power : Pantera
See above. + louder and angrier.

5. - Thriller : Micheal Jackson
can't omit this from any list of musical influence, loved mj as a kid. So many great tracks.

4. - Led Zepplin III : Led Zepplin
late teens was were I discovered "classic rock" which in turn led me to the stones, beatles, Hendrix... etc etc...

3. - Is This It : The Strokes
indie rock explosion at the turn of the century.

2. - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot : Wilco
found a softer side to my musical taste, really opened the door for alot of other bands that I probably wouldn't otherwise have got into.

1. - Ænima : Tool
no great suprise here. From the very first time I heard a note of this music my life changed, just unlike anything I had ever heard but at the same time it felt like everything I had been listening to up until this culminated in a sonic orgasm. Have been hooked ever since. This music actually makes my blood run faster and hotter every ****ing time I hear it.

1-The Beatles-Sgt. Pepper. I'd never heard of it till i came across it in a top 100 albums book in 87 and the landlord of the place i was living in had a copy. It was marvellous and richly varied in instrumentation and...well it's just the most enjoyable album i've ever heard.
2-Pink floyd-Dark side of the moon-I used to hate Floyd 'cause of alll the punk thing. Then one day i was at work aand a guy put this on and I can still remember thinking how brilliant Speak to me was. ha ha ha
3-The Beatles-Revolver. I got this on the same day i got the white album and Rubber soul. all for £3 second hand. It's not as multi-dimensional sounding as Pepper but still very varied and full of inventive and brilliant songs
4-Miles Davis-Another unadventurous choice but when i first heard So what it sounded like he'd found new notes and a new way of playing them on somekinda new instrument. Sublime
5-The Damned-DDD-Some great riffs and hooks and a punk band for people who don't give a **** about politics or anything else apart from having a good time
6-Air-Moon safari-The melodicness of the songs on this album is wonderful. There's no forumula to most of the songs which gives it great variety
7-Lambchop-Nixon. Never heard anything like this. It's simply beautiful from begning to end
8-Kate Bush-Lionheart-My personal fav. of Kates albums. Gotta inc. one of her's just for her voice
9-Gorillaz-Demon days I'm not even going to bother getting the new one 'cause this it'll just disapoint after this album love Damon's singing and the variety of songs
10-Jimi Hendrix-Are you experienced-None of Hendrix's albums had end to end great songs but I've got to inc. this just for his guitaring. dub

1. Sandinista! by The Clash
Sandinista! isn't just my favorite album, it is much, much more. When I did dxm, to come down to a familiar plane of existence, I would play Sandinista! because often, it's the only thing that can comfort me. If I'm anxious, or scared, or I can't sleep, I always play Sandinista!. It lulls me to sleep and tells me that I'm going to be okay in so many ways anything else can't. When it rains, I love to play "Charlie Don't Surf" and feel this ultimate sense of peace come over me.

2. Cut by the Slits
If there was an album, that told me "I know just how you feel right now" it was Cut. Bad breakups, shoplifting, emptiness, mood swings, obsessive love, alienation,it's got it all covered.

3.Wild Gift by X
Wild Gift isn't my favorite, but my first. I remember being thirteen years old and hearing White Girl for the first time and being baffled something that pretty could still be considered punk. I'm still madly in love with John Doe. I still aspire to be just like Exene Cervenka one day too.

4.Self Titled by the Smiths
I don't really need to explain why this is so important to me, as anyone who hears it will find it to be obvious. Absolutely flawless as an album. What Difference Does It Make? is one of the best written songs of all time. All the songs on the album are, tbf.

5. self titled by the Stone Roses
Often, I forget about the Stone Roses and am always so surprised at how amazing they are once I remember. Ian Brown is a ****ing genius in how simplistic and perfect his lyrics are, and this album got me through last winter, like a champ.

6. Room on Fire - The Strokes
Is This It is my favorite by them, but Room On Fire has seen me through lots of heartache. What Ever Happened was my first song by them (via the Marie Antoinette soundtrack ) and it seemed to be perfect for what I was going through at the time, and would lead me onto bigger and better things (Is This It, of course)

7. Coral Fang by the Distillers
I got this when it first came out in 2003. I don't think I ever loved an album front to back as much as I did this one. It's terrifying, the songwriting, and the whole sound of it is ****ing insane, but it's perfect. I wish they'd not have broken up, but hey, **** happens.

8. Bleed American by Jimmy Eat World
This album seems to pop out at me at the strangest times, but when I really need it. Like a musical Room of Requirement, lol. I've never even bothered with other JEW ****, because I'm afraid this album could be ruined for me.

9. Entertainment! by Gang Of Four
Oh my god, Gang of Four. I wish I could eat this album and have it play inside me forever. Probably one of my very first "post-punk" albums. So good.

10. The First Four Years by Black Flag

I don't care what anyone says, this is the best Black Flag ever.
