My favourite love songs are mainly from the 80's and 90's. For instance, these two:

Apart from that, I haven't seen songs in French, Italian, Portuguese or Spanish here yet. And a thread about love songs without songs in Latin languages is like a garden without flowers.

I'd like to post some masterpieces in Spanish, Portuguese and Italian, but I need time to translate their lyrics properly. Let me a few days to do it. For the moment, here you are a French classic with English subtitles:

♫ "(...)
Moi, je t'offrirai.........I'll give you
des perles de pluie........pearls of rain
venues de pays.........that come from lands
où il ne pleut pas...........where it does not rain.
(...)" ♫

Maybe you're right. Some literary critics say this is one of the best definitions:

To drink poison as if it were a soothing liquor,
To disregard gain and delight in being injured.
To believe that heaven can lie contained in hell;
To devote your life and soul to being disillusioned;
This is love; whoever has tasted it, knows.

(Lope de Vega: Rhymes, 1602)

Thank you very much, but unfortunately I don't speak French (although I can understand some basic sentences). At MB, maybe Ikvat has the best information about French love songs. Ikvat, where are you?

Baby, I Don't Know What Love Is
Maybe I'm A Fool
I Just Know What I'm Feeling
And It's All Because Of You
Don't Tell Me
I Don't Know
I Want The Truth
Cuz They Call It
We Call It
You Call It
I Call It Love

I like songs that are like that....they don't try to define love but they express how they feel

I also really like this one as well.

i don't really bother that much about the lyrics of a love-song as much as the mood it creates

some of the Mando-pop/Canto-pop lovesongs I listen to has some pretty trite cliched lyrics

the best love song for me is "what's hurt the most" by the Rascal Flatts. it isn't the most mushiest love song, in fact it's more of a broken-hearted's song but this is how my love life is doing right now and it just makes me cry every time i hear this song.

my thoughts on Love...and Love songs...

...are the songs I play over-simplistic and one-sided? I choose my songs very carefully...they speak my Heart...what I feel for Another....the Love of my Life. I do not find them unrealistic...for this is the Love that I live and experience daily. Is a Love like Ours so rare...that it seems impossible for others to understand? Maybe it is...but songwriters have written of such Love...authors have written of It...poets fill pages with Love...

...what has happened in Our time...to make everyone so bitter towards Love? We are inundated with the statistics...divorce rates climbing...violence against each other...verbal and physical...these are horrible ways to live...to treat one another with such disrespect...but is it the norm?...the negative aspects of everything are focused on so intently...so it seems rare...when We hear a positive story of Love...of a couple together 50...60...70...years...and what do they say about each other? They are positive...Loving towards the Other...sure...they suffered hard times and struggled...as We all do...the many good times are what are remembered...are what are spoken of...

...I am very Blessed to have been brought together in Love with a Wonderful Man...He has given me a Life...where before...I was only existing...He has given me a Beautiful Family...where before...I was alone...He has not only showered me with Love...but has allowed me to Love Him back...in a way that I thought impossible...for the most important aspect of Love...to me...is to be able to give it with abandon...without expectation...for in the act of giving...We receive the greatest of gifts back...

...the songs I choose...I hear and play...this is my Life...these are my feelings...they are in Honour of my Love...

...I am a firm believer in...the kind of energy you put out in life...that is what you receive back...I focus on the positive...on Loving...and that is what is returned to me...

...the Man I Love...is physically many miles from me right now...in a place far removed from this kind of Love...in Our Hearts...We are together...and when I play these songs...We can disappear into them...they are a Portal...into a World of Love...

Love Is

they say It's a river...
...that circles the Earth
a beam of light...
...shinin' to the edge of the Universe
It conquers all...
...It changes everything

they say It's a Blessing...
...they say It's a gift
they say It's a Miracle...
...and I believe that It is
It conquers all...
...but It's a Mystery

Love breaks the chains...
...Love aches for every one of Us
Love takes the tears and the pain...
...and then turns it into the Beauty that remains

Uh, Zaqarbal...isn't "Every Breath You Take" by The Police actually a song about a stalker?? I always liked the song, too, when I listened to it in the 80's and so was surprised when I read what Sting had to say about it:

Quote:
Every Breath You Take by The Police Songfacts

This is one of the most misinterpreted songs ever. It is about an obsessive stalker, but it sounds like a love song. Some people even used it as their wedding song. The Police frontman Sting wrote it after separating from his first wife, Frances Tomelty.

In a 1983 interview with the New Musical Express, Sting explained: "I think it's a nasty little song, really rather evil. It's about jealousy and surveillance and ownership." Regarding the common misinterpretation of the song, he added: "I think the ambiguity is intrinsic in the song however you treat it because the words are so sadistic. On one level, it's a nice long song with the classic relative minor chords, and underneath there's this distasteful character talking about watching every move. I enjoy that ambiguity. I watched Andy Gibb singing it with some girl on TV a couple of weeks ago, very loving, and totally misinterpreting it. (Laughter) I could still hear the words, which aren't about love at all. I pissed myself laughing."

I agree that is a lovely song, Holly. I remember listening to it on the radio when I was a child, thinking it had a sweet but lonely sound that left me feeling kind of empty and full at the same time.

I prefer his Muppets' version though!

Love Is

You are very fortunate, Love-Song, and I imagine being separated from someone with whom you share such a deep love must by hard and bittersweet.

I disagree that the kind of energy one puts into life is what one receives back, because life guarantees neither reciprocity nor fairness. However, I agree with you on the value of focusing on the positive. Even if life isn't perfect, that philosophy can help one appreciate what *is* nice about it.

Here's a love song I think you might like, especially since your man is separated from you far removed from the comfort of being with each other in person. I hope you'll like it. The song is by a MusicBanter member and I think you'll like its message and story very much, since it sounds like it could be about YOU!
