Not to say punk doesnt have its offshoots that deal with different issues. Such as feminism, racism, anti-racism and etc. When I said the punk scene I was more referring to the first wave in '76 and '77.

And to Crowquill, yes you're right I do know it doesn't mean being an upper class prick. But punk was a fickle movement, I mean alot of people felt that the Clash had made big steps culturally with London Calling. Whereas, the punk scene claimed they had sold out. Punks do not wish to be the intellectual type but like to appeal more as the "every-man"

What they want to appeal to doesn't make a difference. I don't see how you don't consider people like Jello Biafra intellectual. Hes one of the best political songwriters ever. His lyrics are way more intelligent then Morrisseys.

I wouldn't consider Jello Biafra an intellectual, he hasn't really done much more than re-hash the same old anti-corporatist anarchist ideologies for the last thirty years. I mean sure, he points out some issues in the world, but you don't need to be an intellectual to do that, just read the newspaper.

And yes, you probably should read books or at least have some interest in reading if you're going to call yourself an intellectual. The term intellectual, in my mind, generally conjures up the image of some pompous douchebag, which I guess fits Morrissey well enough. Also, generally I don't think of political thinkers as intellectuals, more people into philosophy and literature. You know, the more pretentious ones with little practical value.

hmm......some crappy local band that i heard, couldnt even consider music really, the singer sounded like he was swallowing the mic and the drumming was god awful, ang the guitar players had no idea what they where doing........yet people enjoyed them
