A lot of times I'm curious to hear what fans have to say about bands that I don't like but who seem to be well regarded. Sometimes they even win me over.
Yeah I see where you are coming from and paradoxically agree but I have had so many failed attempts on MB I have become sort of battle hardened and realised that once a mind has been made up, it can be a thankless task sometimes.

What I could say in PT'S defence is that their music has constantly evolved and they are not just a heavy band with Prog inclinations. Their first few albums were very ambient keyboard/guitar led.

The other way to look at it is that PT are a fairly easy on the ear type of band so if you don't like them then you probably may never really like them. Yet I would much prefer to big up a band that are more difficult to listen to as they can be the more rewarding. If you like Prog etc then missing out on PT is not a huge biggie but a band with a unique sound may well be worth the time investment. I guess that's how I approach bands and reco's for music.

Obviously because it's not from the early 70s.

Prog. Rhymes with analog.

Anyway Satchmo, to explain why I think Blank Planet is a great album.

I think their best album is In Absentia, which is is one of their most accessible albums.

But I think the reason PT fans rave about Blank Planet is because it marks a return to a darker, more proggy sound. Only think I don't like about it is the murky production.

Dream Theater - Images and Words

DT isn't exactly my thing, but everyone seems to love this album and I can't seem to even tolerate it.

Also, The Smiths - The Queen Is Dead

Another widely acclaimed and loved album, but I found it rather boring.

I liked this album, but I'm not exactly convinced why everyone loves it so much.

AC/DC- Back in Black
Mindless **** rock with a lead singer that sounds worse than the old one.

Rush- 2112
I found it cheesy, but not in a good way.

Fleetwood Mac- Rumours
I found it on vinyl at a Goodwill. It's okay, but I fail to see what the hype was about.

Ramones- Self-titled
They are catchy, but after a while their songs tend to run together.

Sex Pistols- Nevermind the Bullocks
A lot of hype with little substance.

Yeah, I personally didn't but I could understand people deriving some enjoyment from it. What I can't understand is why it's so universally lauded as one of the best things ever.
