Yeah, you started the argument.

FACE

I'm out of album discussion now. But I will say I agree about what has been said about Animal Collective. MPP is not so good but Strawberry Jams rocks the ****.

NumberNineDream 02-16-2010 07:18 PM

... at least we had a discussion.

/my last post in this thread. Promise.

Edit: All what tipped me off was, all these threads about multiple albums, all have the same albums with the same arguments about it... I think I'll just go away from the "general music" section for a while.

You're all describing your experience with the album, then telling the other person that "I know that it's a matter of taste blah blah" ... It's like you aren't even discussing, for fear of an argument.

I'm often scared of having arguments on internet forums, they're a health hazzard. ;)

This may be a bad idea for a thread, but I was just reading the favourite album for every year of your life thread, and some people's favourite album for a whole year, I was like like  I don't get it??

This is just a thread for people who don't get albums, to have their questions answered by fans of the album. Which I thought may have been useful.

Doesn't count unless you legitimately don't like all the songs on there. I find it hard to believe that you can't find something enjoyable about that album.

I feel like Any Colour You Like is a drug trip without the drugs...I seriously feel hazy listening to that song.

Suppose I can find bits and bobs, but it's meant to be the 'complete listening experience' and 'something you have to listen to as an album' or whatever. Bores me to tears, I've never tried drugs. Maybe they help with an album like this. I've never been one for Pink Floyd, which shocks quite a few people. But they don't do it for me.

You might want to check out his earlier stuff, his voice isn't even gravelly on his first album.

Sansa Stark 02-16-2010 08:39 PM

I know this but I still don't like him

I'm with you, that song is crazy in the dark with the volume cranked.

Oh well:(

I didn't really like his stuff at all when I first heard it. Maybe you'll grow to like it but knowing you you probably won't.

No it's not just you. I've never enjoyed them.. and I've never done drugs either. I think it'd be kinda stupid for an album to only be enjoyable if you're on them. Actually.. it's not just Pink Floyd. I don't enjoy The Beatles or David Bowie either which seems to be a big no no.

:O SHOCK!

I love The Beatles, don't think there's anything they've done that I don't love or really like. Not liking Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Bowie and Dylan do seem to be big nono's though.. I'm with you there.

If music can only be enjoyed when you're off your tits, then it's shit

CanwllCorfe 02-16-2010 08:51 PM

Yeah.. I'm still trying to figure out my own tastes. I couldn't tell you why I don't like them.. or why I like these 2 completely unrelated songs.

I'm just a music weirdo I guess

I've only listened to Strawberry Jam once, but I feel quite the opposite. It was a rather painful listen.

hoorayforpeepee 02-17-2010 04:10 AM

These might have been said before but:

Tom Waits - Rain Dogs
King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King
Morrissey - You Are The Quarry
Antony And The Johnsons - I Am A Bird Now
Nirvana - Nevermind
Beck - Odelay
U2 - The Joshua Tree

I just don't get it :(

The Abracadaver 02-17-2010 06:29 AM

Anything by Phoenix or Animal Collective, I just don't get.

Well, I didn't explain in my first post I tried searching, couldn't find anything though.

I would've thought it had been done before, I thought I remembered going on the thread before, couldn't find it anywhere so I just assumed that I was going loopy.

sidewinder 02-17-2010 10:08 AM

Yeah I know, searching isn't always fool-proof. You never really know what someone might have called a thread. I was just saying this one is actually album-oriented, like yours, versus the one NumberNine linked to which was for music opinions in general.

Perhaps a merge can occur...and we can carry on.

Aye, I remember making one for guitarists to show off their guitars, I searched for guitars, what gutiar?

But the thread title was guitarists: show us the weaponry.

I never thought to search 'weaponry.'

So yeah, maybe a nice mod will do a merge, either that or delete. Not fussed which really, at least I know that thread is there, because I think it's a good idea for a thread.

Reasonable Doubt- Jay Z

Don't get me wrong I don't hate it but it deserves no where near the acclaim it recives. The production is horrible and Jay Z has produced far better material since. Its often place alongside the likes of illmatic and ready to die, that for me is just wrong. Its a party album but as a listening experience it doesn't offer much more.

Oasis- WTSMG

There are just so many annoying tracks on this album, I don't think I have ever hated a piece of music as much as I hate Champagne Supernova. I wish the whiny **** would just shut up.

Don't say that, Liam Gallagher might throw one of his Brit awards are your head.

The amount of time I spent as a young teen on my back, drunk, listening to that song is staggering.

How many special people change? - that related to me and the end of the world when my first crush let me down. Good times :D

trouserjazz 02-17-2010 10:31 AM

Fair enough, Im not a complete Oasis hater, Definitely Maybe is a great album, slide away is just stunningly brilliant.

I just don't get morning glory, so many poor tracks and as ive already said the title track in particularly makes me want to puke.

I was one of the few who prefers the second album to the first, and yeah Slide Away on an acoustic guitar is just a great song. I can see why people dislike Oasis, Beatles tribute act, Beatles for chavs etc.

But I won't ever have a bad word to say about them, well I might have some bad words to say about Liam. He's a bit of a tool.

:/

It's a pretty widely accepted opinion that The Gift sucks. Have you heard their debut, In the City? It's much more punk-oriented, and a lot less poppy.

sidewinder 02-17-2010 12:08 PM

Some things that have been brought up made me think that many times, someone not "getting" an album has to do with their age or simply not being into that type of the music when it was popular. I'm sure that's already been mentioned in the thread we just merged with, and it's something I'm always aware of when someone doesn't get/like an album, myself included.

Obviously that's not the only reason someone wouldn't like something, but it can play a big role.

A few people I know love the album! I've always been told that's their best. A town called maaaaaaaaaaalice etc.

I always kind of assumed that's their best work! Is it really deemed as poor?! And I've heard In The City once or twice, but I've always concentrated on The Gift, mainly because I believed it to be branded as their most popular album.

Sansa Stark 02-17-2010 12:10 PM

To me the Jam has always just been good background music, nothing to really seriously contemplate, In The City is pretty okay though
