The Who are awesome, but there's "Who's Next" isn't as fantastic as everyone seems to think. It has a few of their best songs, but as for the rest, utter crap.

Apart from a smattering of tracks, I feel exactly the same about both bands.

i love Apples in The Stereo, The Unicorns, and if they count Primal Scream, just was never a fan of Of montreal except for a few tracks from Hissing Fauna.

Give Olivia Tremor Control a spin if you like those bands, that could help bridge the gap to Of Montreal.

I wasnt really into them when I was into the Elephant 6 bands either. If it helps, keep in mind theres 3 seperate 'eras' of of Montreal: Their twee pop (first two albums) 60's psych pop (The *** Parade through Adhils Aboratum) and their dance pop-punk (Satanic panic to the present) and listen to what genre's easiest to digest, and go from there.

And dac is right about Olivia Tremor Control. I listened to Black Foliage the other day and thought it might actually be better than Neutral Milk Hotel. They also sound alot like Grizzly Bear, I recently realized.

I honestly enjoy OTC's work as a whole more than Neutral Milk Hotel. Literally everything they put out is fantastic. Nothing quite as good as Aeroplane though.

If you like OTC, you should look into Circulatory System. They have a couple of albums...the song-writer is the same as that of OTC (Will Hart). They aren't as good as OTC's albums, but they are quite enjoyable.

That's so weird, I just got off the phone with one of my friend from back in the day and we talk music from time to time and he recommended that band to me... definitely checking them out now.
