I don't understand why Stephen Malkmus is the genius of the group. In my book they are one of those bands where as a collective unit I like them but no distinct member really sticks out. If anything, I remember them for their guitar work over the lyrics...

It's been mentioned without much discussion earlier in the thread, but as a fan of every other VU album besides this one, I have a hard time figuring out the appeal. Wait...scratch that; I have a hard time understanding how anyone could possibly find Nico's voice anything more than completely nauseating. She sounds like a girl trying to jokingly sing like a guy. Every other aspect of this album is solid. Run, Run, Run, I'm Waiting for the Man, European Son, and Heroin are all examples of VU in perfect form, but Sunday Morning, Femme Fatale, All Tomorrow's Parties, and I'll be your Mirror just ruin the entire exprience for me. I'll take Loaded over Andy Warhol any day.

Female Fatal
I'll Be Your Mirror
All Tomorrow's Parties

All great songs IMO. I never get the issue with her voice, she adds something to the band and makes the album even greater than it would've been without her.

Dunno...I can't get into Husker Du so I haven't heard much of their stuff. Maybe Husker Du was more punk and Rites of Spring was more hardcore. Maybe it's on the basis taht emo = emotional hardcore, not emotional punk?

I'd love to see your signature/links too, but the huge and obnoxious ones have caused me to block all signatures.

Husker Du were VERY hardcore when they started.
Even Black Flag were blown away at how fast they played.
