There will always be new and original music, but just because its original will never ever mean its good.

And as for trying to find decent music, the needle in a haystack term is a massive understatement. In my oppinion at least 95% of lo-pro and indie bands completely suck, at the level that I find them at anyway. The other 5% dont suck, but they arent any good either, at least not yet. And beleive me, if any one of those bands were "great" than me and many others would defintly not have to look for them.

The music world works like a circle, it goes everything good, everything bad, everything good..... right now moslty everything new is bad, but it will come back around....

What constitutes good music is sub...........

Its not that new music sucks, it just that the cutthroat nature of the music industry combined with the accessability of the media through the internet has insured that for every one original band that busts their ass just to make it to where they are, there are 1,000 wannabes that get signed overnight just for sounding like them. We the consumer/fans get inundated with all of it, and it amounts to sifting through heaps of garbage just to find something worth listening to. Of course, once we do we can be assured that the new flavor of the month will have arrived and the process starts all over again. So understandably its safer to go with music that has stood the test of time, but that's just as bad sometimes as having the media or pop culture tell you what to listen to

I like what I like, I'd like to think my tastes are very diverse, I like almost everything. So I like a lot of the obscure music "hipsters" listen to, but also a lot of the so called "corporate crap" thats supposed to make you uncool if you like it.

I don't think music quality should be judged by labels, or the people behind the music or whatever. And I think its obnoxious to tell people they have bad taste in music because they like music thats accessible to them through the media and is therefore very popular, as opposed to going to the Indie record stores like all the "cool kids".

As of now, I dont really spend much time searching for new bands, I'm happy with the music I already have, my comp is overloaded with files as it is.

nah i never said that. just that slightly tweaking one knob on a 303 will resultu in a different sound, whereas you don't have that much variety between the same models of a guitar.


ultimately, i'm just trying to say that the "everything's been done" before argument isn't an argument at all. there is an infinity of possiblities when it comes to chord progressions, melodies, lyrics, hooks, beats, production styles, etc, that music will never get stale. however, stylistically, i feel that everything has been done. we will always have new songs but not necessarily new styles.

The crucial question being whether those 2 bands came afterwards or before...

Any new sound will be quickly copied. Why should that be a reason to become jaded?

I don't just dislike Indie music because of the label (though I certainly do dispise the label), but because of the quality of the music that defines the so called scene. In other words, I don't like it, you know, just bcuz.

Though I never actually said I hate all Indie music, I think I've made it pretty clear that I don't.

Not to start an argument or anything, but can you name some examples so I know what you're referring to? Indie is a rather elusive label and covers a wide range of styles...
