but she just listened to amnesiac and liked it. my favorites are amnesiac and OK Computer.

If you really enjoyed Amnesiac you should check out Kid A next, it has that same experimental sound only more consistent, that or OK Computer which is a more guitar driven album.

Wow! Starting with Amnesiac.... now that would be like jumping in on the deeper end of the Radiohead pool... but no less satisfying... if you enjoyed Amnesiac, then Radiohead is definitely for you, indeed!

It's always best to start off with The Bends. I started off with Kid A and got a bit frightened.

I can see how Kid A could be a bit off putting / frightening for the unitiated Radiohead listener....all those distorted vocals, moog bits, songs structures that transcend the verse chorus verse approach... to the untrained ear, I am sure it could seem somewhat messy...

It's why Radiohead's fanbase are all so hardcore and elitist. As you progress through their back catalogue their albums become less structured and more-or-less smatterings of genius masquerading as songs.

Perhaps my statement sounded too negative - I'm a massive fan of Radiohead. I'm saying that as you go through their albums you become more accepting and tolerant of the experimental direction they are taking because you've watched them grow into that. Pablo Honey is grunge, that then transcends onto The Bend's Classic rock, that then becomes OK Computer's alternative rock etcetc.

I think Kid A is relatively cohesive and could perhaps be understood by the previously uninitiated, but I do not envy anyone who thinks it would be a good idea to start off with Amnesiac.
