Radiohead, I don't really hate'em I just don't get why everyone loves em so much, I think they're boring.

I like them, but believe me IT TOOK FOREVER to like them. Lots of painstaking hours of listening until finally. I totally got it.

I don't think that's the proper way to get into a band.
The only thing i liked from them were these covers from a webcast of theirs a year back.

jacklovezhimself 04-13-2008 12:30 PM

^^^ yeah well it wasn't my fault. I was the kid who "wasn't hip with Radiohead" in my group of friends. One night they made me stay up all night and we listened and talked and then I was like oh I like this song. And then I was like can I borrow this album?

Yeah it was not the right way but it payed off. I really enjoy them now.

Piss Me Off 04-13-2008 12:34 PM

Is there a wrong way of getting into music? The bands that grow on me slowly tend to be the ones that i end up liking a lot more. Not sure why though.

jacklovezhimself 04-13-2008 12:37 PM

I don't know actually. I feel like I was tortured into liking Radiohead and now I LOVE them. weird.

Piss Me Off 04-13-2008 12:39 PM

Most things will grow on you if its pushed upon you enough, i'm guessing.

It's called Brainwashing....

simplephysics 04-13-2008 12:43 PM

Or maybe it's because Radiohead is a good band

sweet_nothing 04-13-2008 12:45 PM

eh...either/or

sleepy jack 04-13-2008 12:58 PM

sweet_nothing if I made you a Radiohead compilation would you download it? I think you'd like if you heard the right songs.

sweet_nothing 04-13-2008 01:05 PM

yeah but I couldn't listen to it because my itunes is all ***. So just tell me which album to get...

pheurton 04-13-2008 01:47 PM

Or you could wait until i-tunes regains its heterosexuality?

Yeah, thats same with me too, like when I first heard Elliott Smith, I really didn't like it too much at all, and it took me a while before I actually did fully appreciate it, and now he's like my favorite ever. Same with Patrick Wolf and The Magnetic Fields.
Radiohead on the other hand, I actually fell in love with first listen, although for most people I know, Radiohead were definitely more of a grow-on-you type band.

Piss Me Off 04-13-2008 01:59 PM

Yeah, Radiohead was pretty immediate with me as well. All it took was Paranoid Android and i was hooked.

sweet_nothing 04-13-2008 02:14 PM

With me it has to be love at first listen, I don't want to have to listen over & over again until I like.

simplephysics 04-13-2008 02:15 PM

You should go for Ok Computer, Sweet_Nothing. Spin named it Best Album of the 90's awhile back.

Piss Me Off 04-13-2008 02:19 PM

Sweet Nothing you may want to try The Bends as well, if you like Oasis you may like it as it has the same mid-90's feel to it. (thats the best way i could describe it).

Molecules 04-13-2008 02:20 PM

^There's alot to be said for the immediacy of certain artists, and if something gets me like that it tends to be within my musical/intellectual comfort zone - however there's so much music I just couldn't stomach when I was 16, 18, whatever, that is just so obviously brilliant to me now. Your palette expands

I agree with you on this one. Forcing yourself to listen and like music seems kind of like an arranged marriage to me. Even if you end up loving the person after living with them for a while, it lacks the magic you feel with falling in love with them from the start. If that makes any sense...

Dr_Rez 04-13-2008 06:59 PM

Practice makes perfect?

maybe that doesn't apply here :(

I disagree with that.
If I like something straight away chances are a few months down the line I get bored of it.
I much prefer it when I listen to something and have to work on it to appreciate it more. Makes me feel like i'm getting my moneys worth.
I first heard The Fall in 1995 and I hated them , now I love them dearly & would listen to anything of them I could can get my hands on , even really crappy sounding bootlegs.

polka_tulk 04-13-2008 07:08 PM

There's a lot to be said for music that grows on you. Every song I immediately liked became annoying about three weeks later.

I see what you mean. I guess it's different for everyone. I personally have never been able to force myself to like a certain artist, but I have noticed the trend of absolutely loving something when it first hits the scene and then hating it weeks later. That's why I don't go out and buy CD's until I've been listening for quite a while.
