That's what I was saying in my original post. Most bands go to London because thats where the industry is based.

You guys are forgetting some other big names from Liverpool.
Anathema
Apollo 440
Atomic Kitten
Black
Cilla Black
The Boo Radleys
Cast
Elvis Costello
Dead or Alive
The Dead 60s
Echo & the Bunnymen
Electrafixion
Adam F
The Farm
A Flock of Seagulls
Frankie Goes to Hollywood
Billy Fury
Gerry & the Pacemakers
The KLF
Julian Lennon
The Lightning Seeds
Ian McCulloch
Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark
The Real Thing
The Searchers
The Swinging Blue Jeans
The Teardrop Explodes

The Yachts
The Zutons
Naturally, there's others I didn't list and not all that I listed are neccesarily good. Overall, I probably agree that Liverpool is not the best music city.

And to think you missed out Half Man Half Biscuit from that list.

What's wrong with them.

Their first 2 singles were 2 of the best pop songs ever made in the 80s.

sweet_nothing 06-18-2008 09:20 AM

do does that really make a city a landmark in music?

Urban Hat€monger ? 06-18-2008 09:22 AM

First band since the Beatles to have their first 3 singles get to no1.
And thats at a time when the singles chart actually meant something. AND they were on an indie label.

Thats a pretty big achievment if you ask me.

sweet_nothing 06-18-2008 09:26 AM

maybe it is but really? Liverpool? Manchester is where its at

right-track 06-18-2008 10:25 AM

Manchester's always been where it's at.
L*******l only got it on the strength of The Beatles IMO.
You only have to look at any modern music poll, whether it be albums or bands and the general public are always wide of the mark.
With the odd exception L*******l traditionally only do poppy upbeat love songs. Almost every scouse band sells their own city out and runs off to London.

Manchester bands on the whole, like to do things their own way, making their own style of music, in their own city.
The whole thing just further convinces me that the general public haven't got a clue when it comes to music.

I don't understand why Sheffield was the main one after Liverpool. I can think of Arctic Monkeys and Pulp.
