Guess you're not a big fan of Agoraphobic Nosebleed? Their one album is 100 songs, but only about 20 minutes.

One of the only albums that seriously got me winded listening to was Godspeed You Black Emperor!'s Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven, with ninety minutes and winding tracks kind of diminishes over time.

grindcore is an exception considering most of the songs are under one minute i could listewnto a 100 track grindcore album

I concur, grindcore is a huge exception.

Or you could go the way of Green Carnations 'Light Of Day, Day Of Darkness' which is just one track at just over an hour. It's a great album too.

However

There are a certain bunch of people who seem to think music died in 1990s. That nothing since can even touch what was around in the 70s. The sort of people who consider Guns & Roses and Nirvana the last 'good bands' to come out.

I mean how depressing must it be if you are a fan of music and your list of favourite albums looks like this

1. Pet Sounds
2. Sgt Pepper
3. Dark Side Of The Moon
4. IV
5. Tommy

...

I'm in my 30s , so is Jackhammer , so is R-T we're always looking for new things to enjoy. I might be more cynical and harder to impress than when I was when I was 20/21 but the enthusiasm is there. There's just no excuse for not making any effort to look if you consider yourself a fan of music.

I'm 45 and grew up on classic rock. I totally agree with this as I belong to several classic rock forums where a lot of the members will only hear the latest album by Deep Purple or Rush and complain there's nothing good out today. They are trapped in some sort of time warp.

Both.
It's hard to explain just what I hate about the music. It's like it's too sterile for lack of a better word. When listening to this type of stuff I like a bit of dirt and a bit of rawness. All the stuff i've heard from this band has neither to me it just sounds like a radio friendly produced Helmet.

As for their politics , I put them on the same level as some kid signing up to this forum and saying stuff like 'I hate Bush lol'

I just cannot take them seriously

But I hardly ever listen to Post Rock , In fact I said somewhere on here I hate 98% of what i've heard of it.

Their politics annoy me and I get where you are coming from with a polished sound but to be fair they sound exactly the same live and are a musically talented band.
To be fair, their albums have very few overdubs and are well produced. Not all rock music can be dirty or underproduced. On the other hand I could see that their whole ethos has a whiff of pre manufacture about it.

However some producers can elicit a 'clean' sound from energetic bands. Look at Slayer's 'Reign In Blood'. An absolute phenemonal album that we both love, but you cannot ignore the fact that the production from Rubin plays a huge part. It's great strength (it's economical precision if you will) is also at odds with the ethos of Thrash Metal at the time (D.I.Y Metal if you will). I am digressing but this is one of the reasons why I like RATM. They have an immensely 'clean' sound that is still powerful and raises them above many similar bands around at the time.

I have similar feelings about the lyrics of Atari Teenage Riot songs. I like their music but their lyrics are so incredibly shallow for supposedly political lyrics. I always wished they would've sung in German so I wouldn't know what they were saying.

On the RATM tip, I have always sort of liked them but never felt compelled to buy anything other than their first album since it never seemed like they evolved musically at all from album to album.

I told you i'd have trouble explaining what I meant :D

I was talking more about the music than the production although that was a small part of it.

I'm not saying I want those things in all albums , just in albums of this sort. I just think making clean sounding radio friendly big budget protest music contradicts itself. With metal it's different I think a metal band with good production does wonders because the music is the primary focus , not the message.

It feels like someone made a checklist to see what sort of things your average anti establishment 14 year old kid would like and put it into practice. To me they sound like a manufactured band , even if they are or not.
