It doesn't happen too often as I have a lot of respect for most of the people who post here *cough*. But there have been times when someone will come along with no taste whatsoever and then suddenly out of the blue claim that the love The Fall or whoever. I should be happy that someone else loves the bands I do but the reality is my first thought is 'Oh God , now i'll have to deal with that pain in the arse everytime I want to talk about a band I love'.
Sorry but there's a hierarchy involved. You don't just jump from Coldplay or Muse or U2 to The Fall , you earn it. when you have a basic knowledge of the bands of the time and opinions on other post punk albums and have shown me you've actually LIVED with these albums then maybe i'll take you seriously. Learning a few things of wiki and having the same generic opinions of the same generic albums will not convince me otherwise.

Selfish & elitist ? ... Fuck yes , but I never claimed I was the nicest person around.

I tend to agree, but for a different reason. It's somewhat annoying when someone who listens to Duran Duran and the Spice Girls suddenly starts "liking" Echo & The Bunnymen. It just cheapens the whole thing.

Yep, that's a good one. Even worse, though; people who hate a band based on one song. "I hate the Kinks." "Which songs have you heard?" "Just that one about the transvestite...but that song sucks, man! I hate the Kinks."

Now c'mon, you hate Bono, and this kinda falls into the kind of snobbish comments he would make.

I do understand what Urban is talking about though. A few members on here were complete noobs when it came to music but within 3 months they were world experts on British Post Punk or Avant Garde Rock. There is more to Music than just knowing a few facts and figures.

I have 2 Fall albums and I think they're good, not my fav post punk band, but I appreciate them. I also like Coldplay, deal with it.

Read Jackhammer's post , thats the sort of thing i'm getting at.

I'm not saying if you like band A you can't like band B.
