And this takes away the chugging nu-metal riffs how?

And Serj's vocals were not "semi-urban styled," whatever the fuck that means. His transition from growling vocals to melodic encompassed huge disparities in pitch and volume, and didn't meander in the realm where most nu-metal vocalists force words from their mouths without emotion or pitch.

Yeah, okay. Whatever.

And here's a helpful hint for the next time you think about talking: if you DON'T know what you're talking about, DON'T post. It's really that simple.
This seems to apply more to the dumbass who hasn't even paid attention to the fact that Serj is pretty much rapping in a nasally hokey Jim Carey-esque way half the time. I.E. You.

Unless you're going by some abstract definition of "progressive elements," I'm pretty sure the incorporating of unconventional instruments counts as one. I don't know what those songs are supposed to suggest. Do they sound like nu-metal? No, not really. Does it sound like Serj is trying to rap? No, not at all. His delivery is such that it isn't meant to be the important part of the song. Oh, and here's the lyrics, in case you want to try to make something out of them:

Quote:
Peters pecker picked another
Pickle bearing pussy pepper,
Peters pecker picked another
Pickle bearing pussy pepper, why.

Meeting john at dales jr.
Winked an eye and point a finger,
Meeting john at dales jr.
Winked an eye and point a finger, why.

A former cop, undercover,
Just got shot, now recovered,
A former cop, undercover,
Just got shot, now recovered, why.

Fighting crime, with a partner,
Lois lane, jimmy carter,
Fighting crime, with a partner,
Lois lane, jimmy carter, (siren).

Aa ee eh aa eh aa oh
Aa ee eh aa eh aa oh, why
As we light up the sky.

Peters pecker picked another
Pickle bearing pussy pepper,
Peters pecker picked another
Pickle bearing pussy pepper, why.

Meeting john at dales jr.
Winked an eye and point a finger,
Meeting john at dales jr.

As we light up the sky.

Mine delusions acquainted,
Bubbles erotica,
Plutonium wedding rings,
Icicles stretching,
Bicycles, shoestrings,
One flag, flaggy but one,
Painting the paintings of the alive.

Aa ee eh aa eh aa oh
Aa ee eh aa eh aa oh, why
As we light up the sky.
Aa ee eh aa eh aa oh
Aa ee eh aa eh aa oh, why
On the fourth of july.
Doesn't really sound like your average self-obsessed drug-peddling nu-metal lyrics, does it?

Progressive, when describing music, typically refers to song structure. Quit acting like booboo.

I am sorry you are deaf. Those are most definitely nu-metal riffs and Serj is making a poor attempt at rapping.

Good thing nu-metal isn't defined by lyrical content.

Shoe gaze(wtf is it?)
"funky/dirty/stinky (fill in blank) house music" ALL house music is ****ty, no matter how you dress it up.
nu metal
pop punk-No such thing exists. If I hear one more ****ing person try to explain to me how the likes of: Paramore/Avril Levigne or Sum 41 are any kind of "punk", I wish death upon their fans.

"MASH UPS"-PLease!!! invent something new, or stop.

Im not a Soad fan but its kind of just obvious they arent nu metal...they aren't a rap-rock hybrid at all
which is basically what the genre is about
and downtuned guitars with lots of distortion
are not exclusive to nu metal
they were just in the wrong place at the wrong time...
they are more akin to tool than any nu metal band i can think of
