He didn't resort to name calling and another mod righted it.

It's not, you throw personal insults around and you'll get slapped, that's the rules.

Doesn't really seem necessary to have a second phrase. Winning the poll should be enough for introduction.

This time it's personal.

Led Zeppelin- no, good music but they aren't a band I can listen to all the time.
Joy Division I've heard maybe 5 JD songs that I actually like, so no.
Elliott Smith- yes, me thinks he is still incredibly unapperciated.
The Beatles yes, timeless music.
King Crimson- It's a no, They don't need my help.
Wu-Tang Clan- yes, still nothing to **** with.
The Velvet Underground-I don't want to say no, but I don't care about them enough to go any other way.

I haven't done that once. My original statement was that his music wasn't transcendent enough to make up for a short career. You incorrectly suggested that that same logic should apply to Led Zeppelin, Joy Division and Wu-Tang Clan. I pointed out that the subjective element "transcendent enough" means that the same logic can't apply, since I do view those groups as "transcendent enough."

I should have left it at that but, not realizing you were actually looking for a chance to whine and not for clarification, I clarified WHY I didn't see Smith as "transcendent enough," that he didn't stand out from the musical scene enough.

You decided, again incorrectly, to interpret "stand out from" as "be unique from," when I meant "stand out from" as "be superior than."

I hope this has cleared up the chain of events for you. If you're still angry and upset, I'm sorry. I still don't think Elliott Smith's music was transcendent enough to overcome a relatively short career. I still do think Led Zeppelin's music, Joy Division's music, Wu-Tang Clan's music (and Velvet Underground's music) were transcendent enough to overcome similarly short (or shorter) careers.

Are you saying he was less diverse than Zeppelin, Wu-Tang and Joy Division?

No. My opinion has never been about diversity. My opinion has been about quality of the music. That is what I always meant by "transcendent." How good the music is.

To boil this down into words that require less interpretation: Elliott Smith's music wasn't good enough, in my opinion, to warrant Hall of Fame induction with a relatively short career.

Had he maintained the quality and rate of production he did for another ten years or perhaps even five years, for example, I likely would have voted for him.

You're still not saying anything about his music. Your argument could apply to anyone that's released five albums, it's generic. Why not come up with some reasons that actually have something concrete behind them?
