I haven't done that once. My original statement was that his music wasn't transcendent enough to make up for a short career. You incorrectly suggested that that same logic should apply to Led Zeppelin, Joy Division and Wu-Tang Clan. I pointed out that the subjective element "transcendent enough" means that the same logic can't apply, since I do view those groups as "transcendent enough."

I should have left it at that but, not realizing you were actually looking for a chance to whine and not for clarification, I clarified WHY I didn't see Smith as "transcendent enough," that he didn't stand out from the musical scene enough.

You decided, again incorrectly, to interpret "stand out from" as "be unique from," when I meant "stand out from" as "be superior than."

I hope this has cleared up the chain of events for you. If you're still angry and upset, I'm sorry. I still don't think Elliott Smith's music was transcendent enough to overcome a relatively short career. I still do think Led Zeppelin's music, Joy Division's music, Wu-Tang Clan's music (and Velvet Underground's music) were transcendent enough to overcome similarly short (or shorter) careers.
