Saying that a musician didn't produce "superior" music doesn't require an explicit subject for comparison. It is quite commonly used to mean "superior to the rest of music." Which, lo and behold, I specified after you questioned me about the word.

Saying something is superior does require a comparison, as its a comparative word...I've never heard anyone say "That's superior" without directly comparing it to something.

Great Job as always PMO.

Here are my thoughts

Led Zeppelin - Yes, My favorite band ever.
Elliott Smith - No I think there are better songwriters who need to be in first.
The Beatles - Yes They're pretty good.
King Crimson - Yes A prog staple that needs to represent this site.
Wu-Tang Clan - No Not yet. Not in the first class.
The Velvet Underground - Yes Great example of great music for more sophisticated musical tastes.

If you're posting in the music forums make sure to be thoughtful and expressive, if you're posting in the lounge ask yourself "is this something that adds to the conversation?" It's important to remember that a lot of people use each thread. You're probably not as funny or clever as you think, I know I'm not.

Does it really matter what order they go in to get in? If that were the case shouldn't be all be nominating Bach instead of Wu Tang?

Good question.

Here's my reasoning. For me my votes will be based on which bands I feel represent the site well as well as which I value the most. So I need to know if someone like Nick Drake or Woody Guthrie or Bob Dylan is going to get in before I can vote Elliot Smith in.

My concept of a hall of fame is a place for the best of the best based on the criteria of the people selected to elect them.

Does that make sense?

Is there a mechanism for bands/artists that fail to be inducted in this round to get further chances to be inducted down the line?

Yes a band can be nominated again at anytime. This is because with members changing and tastes changing it's the only way to represent the evolving tastes and perspectives of the community.

I get what you mean, but saying no to him now pretty much eliminates him from getting in later, right? And I'm sure people like Bob Dylan, Nick Drake, and Leonard Cohen *cough* will all be nominated in time..

You've never heard anyone say "So-and-so makes superior music" or "So-and-so is a superior football player" as stand-alone statements?

If so, we come from highly different experiences. I've heard such things many times, and the comparison is obvious (to me) in context...superior to the competition as whole.
