1970:

1. The Stooges - Fun House

Such power. "Down on the Street" has got to be the coolest strutting song on the face of the earth.

2. Amon Düül II - Yeti

This is certainly one of the best of krautrock and deserves much more credit than it seems to get.

3. Cat Stevens - Tea for the Tillerman (1970)

A perfect, beautiful pop album. From start to finish, this is absolutely wonderful. Definitely a personal favorite.

4. Art Ensemble of Chicago - Les stances à Sophie (1970)

Don't really need to explain the appeal of this album. Just listen to the first few seconds of 'Thème de yoyo' and it'll certainly have your attention.

Perhaps even more beautiful than Pet Sounds, I don't know. A masterpiece of 60s pop. I was obsessed with this a few years ago.

4. Silver Apples - Silver Apples

Way ahead of its time. I guess it sounds like the 60s, but at the same time it sort of doesn't. A true gem.
Good to see O&O in here. The more people here it, the more lists it makes. I still haven't heard the Silver Apples.

1968 and no S.F. Sorrow?

I think it might breach my top fifty albums of all-time...

I REALLY want Odessesy and Oracle. I have a couple of Tell Her No and Time Of The Season from a 60s greatest hits thing. They sound awesome.

S.F. Sorrow would have made it if I did my top 50 albums of 1968 but certainly not top 4. :$ In fact, I've been meaning to do lists of my top 50 albums from each year on RYM for some time, so I might try doing 1968 tomorrow and see where S.F. Sorrow ends up.

To me, this is TVU's masterpiece. Not even their debut could prepare people for this.
I <3 this album, I agree with you it's VU's best album by far.

I would have included Hot Rats for 1969. Definitely one of my all time favorites! Disraeli Gears for 1967 wouldn't have been a bad choice either, but hey, It's not my list anyways
Go on...
Good that you've included the silver apples album

1971:

1. Can - Tago Mago

The mother of all krautrock, Tago Mago is Can at their most experimental and their most incredible. This will likely lose some fans once Halleluhwah ends and Aumgn starts up, but give it a chance. This is in my top 5 albums ever.

2. T.Rex - Electric Warrior

An album packed full of great tunes. This wasn't about breaking ground, but I imagine to Marc Bolan's surprise, Electric Warrior did end up being largely influential. It remains a timeless example of rock 'n' roll done perfectly.

3. Serge Gainsbourg - Histoire de Melody Nelson

When I first heard this, it didn't take much longer than 10 minutes to decide that it was the coolest album I had ever heard. Give this record ten minutes or less, it'll sell itself.

4. Funkadelic - Maggot Brain

A masterpiece of psychedelic funk-rock. "Mother Earth is pregnant for the third time, for y'all have knocked her up."
