Echoes, Pink Floyd
Lateralus, Tool
Rosetta Stoned, Tool
Reflection, Tool
Pu****, Tool
Anesthetize, Porcupine Tree
Arriving Somewhere But Not Here, Porcupine Tree
Cicatriz Esp, The Mars Volta
Doors, Cog
Naming The Elephant, Cog
Some More of the Same, Karnivool

I love 'epic' songs, or songs that are 10 minutes or longer, so long as they are captivating - or else it just turns into a way too long get-it-over-with bore fest. But I guess that just comes down to personal opinion. These are some of my favourites.

I tried to go, but my diapers kept riding up on me.

I still grew up hearing From Out of Nowhere and Epic on the radio.

Don't know the last two but I definitely approve of some of those choices. My new favourite poster

It can go either way, sometimes you get a great jam esque feeling and sometimes it just turns into half assed ambient crap. That's just talking about large instrumental segments, if the song can keep up lyrics throughout then I'm fine with it.

I love Voodoo Chile and (1983)A Merman I Should Be, because the guitar work never fails to hold my attention.

Hortz Fur Dehn Stekehn West by Magma also works extrememly well at almost ten, because of the evolution of the song throughout.

As with Starless by King Crimson which just relentlessly builds throughout the whole song. The album version is slightly longer than this.

Now for an example of failing, Cicatriz ESP by the Mars Volta starts off excellently before devolving into 4 minutes of spacey ambience and then picking up again. It really could have just kept going at near full pace. I still love the song, but it would have been better if it was a little less epic.

edit: Thanks Jackhammer.

Heh I'm glad you approve! I'm pretty sure nobody will have heard of the last two bands, because they are Australian and unfortunately slide under the radar. Cog and Karnivool are still pretty fresh onto the scene but for their 'age' they are both incredibly good and have some great prog stuff out there with really unique sounds - if anyone's interested, they are definitely worth a look! If I get the chance I'll try to post some links to albums.

Not even funny, I've heard that song too many times.

I think I avoid visiting home simply to avoid my little sister playing that song on repeat.
