Yes. I own almost all of it. I don't think then or now Tom Waits had any pretensions of being a crooner.

ValeBartoloz 01-02-2009 11:18 AM

i don't know if you people know him but in Italy we have Andrea Bocelli (should be pretty famous abroad at least i guess). He's a sort of Pavarotti heir but he has the 5% of his amazing voice...

Then you're either deaf or crazy.

Guybrush 01-02-2009 06:11 PM

I agree on Ozzy, although I too enjoy his vocals ..

I don't really think Andrew Eldritch is a good singer, but I like him too.

I know him all too well, my mum wants to marry him. Can't say i approve judging by the music.

4ZZZ 01-03-2009 06:33 AM

Andrea Bocelli is IMO an excellent singer and I like a few of his songs as well.

scottsy 01-03-2009 08:55 PM

I saw him sing a lullabye to Elmo on Sesame Street... oh the joys of watching TV with your kids when you are a parent...

khfreek 01-03-2009 11:18 PM

I love how the person who made the list thinks over-singing qualifies as not being able to.

scottsy 01-04-2009 07:26 AM

Oversinging really does suck though - I am so sick and tired of singers drawing out the end of words into vocal gymnastic demonstrations of their virtuosity. It's damn boring and it just craps all over the intent of the song half the time. It's just a great big showing off session to show how wonderful the artists vocal style is, and it turns music into some sort of sporting competition where listeners expect singers to out sing the last person. It sucks.

And thats what I really feel.

The truth. I think the reason i dislike shows like the X Factor and what have you isn't due to their authenticity or whatever but the fact that it seems to be promoting singers who just seem to bellow half the bloody time. When you think about it doesn't actually sound good at all!

My favourite singer is Tom Waits though so you can take what you want from that.

alexlovesrock 01-04-2009 09:34 AM

julian casablancas the strokes .... but i still love him

scottsy 01-04-2009 09:51 PM

Yeah he kinda sing / speaks / mumbles -its ok, though, kinda suits the style of his band's music.

CalRog 01-04-2009 10:26 PM

That list is ridiculous. Bias?

kyleargyle 01-05-2009 08:32 AM

I'd have to go with Serj Tanian. He kind of sounds like a muppet when he sings. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing, but...

He's got a unique voice, but he's always making the exact sound/pitch he intends to make. So no, he can sing <_<

jackhammer 01-05-2009 12:29 PM

^^^

That looks like it's from the 'Rude Awakening' DVD. Great DVD. You gotta love Mustaine :D

someonecompletelyrandom 01-05-2009 06:43 PM

John Lydon... but who the heck cares he's awesome!

boo boo 01-06-2009 03:53 AM

Yeah Johnny Rotten by far.

Aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, you blooody c*nt, argh!!!!!

SyntheticAmity 01-08-2009 09:51 AM

Man, I think she has a great voice. One of the best R&B singers out there IMHO.

scottsy 01-08-2009 09:07 PM

Might ruffle a few feathers with this one, but I feel that Bob Dylan is a truly awful singer... perhaps a great lyricist, tunesmith, whatever.... but he didn't have a great voice...

Now let the slegding of scottsy begin...

I don't think many people would dispute that, he's known for his awful voice. But I'll tell you what, I also think he's extremely overrated as a lyricist and that will probably stir up a hornets nest. :p:

Gotta say I agree

CaseNumber:825 01-09-2009 10:47 AM

To be quite honest.... I've never ever been a Bob Dylan fan...... ever

I can't get into his lyrics, music, or voice..... so I have to say that I completely agree

FaSho 01-09-2009 01:15 PM

Bob Dylan is like Tom Waits in a way. Both of them sound terrible, but if you can't get past that and enjoythe amazing music you're listening to then I feel sorry for you.

I love Tom Waits and actually don't think he sounds terrible at all. Dylan has done some things that I've liked but overall he doesn't really do it for me.

I'm not sure what you're talking about. Bob Dylan never aspired to craft a gravelly voice; it just came naturally. Tom Waits' distinct vocal delivery evolved from a stylistic decision and is an integral part of his music. If you think his voice sounds terrible, there's not much else to enjoy; you'd be better off just reading the liner notes.

I think the first Macy Gray album was perfectly respectable too. Was'nt too impressed with the follow up and that's where my knowledge ends.

p333kachuu 01-09-2009 04:05 PM

Early Michael Stipe. I love it, but come on, it's true.

FireInCairo 01-09-2009 04:08 PM

Pikachu?

NSW 01-09-2009 04:46 PM

The lead singer of The Offspring...don't know his name. I've been mildly interested in their music for years, but noticed that the dude can't really sing worth a flip.

boo boo 01-10-2009 07:37 AM

Dude, that's one EVERYONE can agree with I think.

scottsy 01-10-2009 09:40 PM

I think his name is Dexter or something... and I am with the concencus that he most definitely is not the best singer...

dac 01-11-2009 12:20 PM

Ugh! The dude I worked with over the summer would always turn up the radio when that Hammerhead song would come on. Not fun.

Agreed, he sucks. I remixed two tracks for him and hit the codine hard afterwards. He's also a complete ahole, almost as big an ahole as his percussionist. Alright there Inder o_O.

Raust 09-24-2010 10:06 PM

Agree with everyone on that list besides Anthony Keidis. I love the Red Hot Chili Peppers and I actually do enjoy his voice.

Jeff Magnum can't sing to save his life, but that is what makes his songs so unique to him, because he's the only one that can sing them properly, or improperly I suppose.

SaintSwan 09-25-2010 03:20 PM

I like good singing... no, scratch that, I prefer good song presenters. A singer that can present a given song in the best possible way and a lot of times good technical singing isn't very good at presenting a given song. Ozzy as an example, I've heard good singers cover some of his songs and they absolutely suck balls, awesome when he sings it, but crap on toast by good singers. His unique vocal delivery is perfectly suited to the songs that he sings. Same with Keidis, Tom Waits, Helfield and so on and so forth. Bob Dylan is different for me in that everytime I hear someone else sing his songs I am enthralled but everytime he sings them I hear them as just plain bad songs.

When screamo became popular in metal I couldn't handle it and couldn't listen to it. I still can't listen to that stuff and tend to lump them all in as bad singers but I know a lot of guys who love that stuff and think it works for the songs. How they can differentiate between singers of different bands? I still don't understand that.

I don't like oversinging either and I'd appreciate it if they learned restraint, however I'm not the market for the oversingers and that market seems to like that style so if I don't want that market telling me how metal singers should sing (and I don't) then I'm not going to tell that market how those singers should sing.

Justin Bieber, the dude from Oasis, and the dude from Kings of Leon.
