Radiohead - No. From what I've heard (which is two studio albums and their best of) I'm not impressed, and I consider them overrated. They have their qualities, but not enough to justify them going to the Hall of Fame.

The Kinks - Yes. Possibly the best band in history.

The Beach Boys - Yes. A small yes, simply for the role they played in my early teens.

Public Enemy - I haven't listened enough to form an opinion.

Radiohead - They're overrated, but still okay. Undecided.

the Kinks - Absolutely. I'm not their biggest fan but I'm able to tell the Davies have a good bit of songwriting talent.

Beach Boys - **** no. Pet sounds was nowhere near as good as people make it out to be and Brian Wilson was the only one with any appreciable songwriting skills (which have been overstated repeatedly).

Public Enemy - a regrettable no here. I won't deny their influence but there were better, smarter hip-hop acts like De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, and Pharcyde, among others.

Radiohead - Yes, because they are certainly popular on Musicbanter, and will probably be the most remembered band of this generation.

The others, undecided.

Maybe I am missing the point as to what a Hall Of Fame is but a combination of popularity, innovation and influence would be the key to selection IMO.

So if a Hall Of Fame is to have any credibility the Beach Boys being rejected would be a travesty. It is not a matter of liking or disliking them when discussing their place in the history of music. They were both popular and innovative. They were and still are influential. Even bands as far removed from their sound and as diverse as say Air, for example, have admitted an influence. They are genuine hall of fame material.

As to the other 3 I have hardly heard any of their music but they also carry that combination of popularity, innovation and influence.

All 4 artists nominated get a vote from me.

I think the point is that there are already a million Hall of Fame or Greatest Ever lists using exactly that criteria.

This is meant to be more personal and unique to the site, to represent the tastes of the community. We shouldn't admit The Beach Boys simply because they have already attained classic status, that should influence our decision, but the most important factor is liking the music they made.

That's a horrid f*cking ethos. For one, "innovation" and "influence" are subjective terms, and another: if we don't reserve our personal opinions, there's little point to voting in the first place.

That being said the use of pop hooks doesn't exactly quantify "innovation."

No. I don't like them. I dont find them influential othe rhtne spawning socially concius hip-hop bores.
If you don't like them fine, vote no, but they're arguably the most influential Hip Hop group ever, their influence goes far beyond 'other conscious hop hop bores'.
