Rakim is a nice rapper, but he doesn't come close to DOOM, Aesop and EL-Producto to be honest.

In terms of influence and dropping consistently great verses you have to look at Rakim, Kool G Rap and possibly KRS One (although he has had a few duff albums). I've been running a blog to statistically work out who is the greatest rapper by means of their album scores from critics and fans. I don't think I'm allowed to link it but it's on my profile. And currently it calculates that Pharaohe Monch is the best, followed by Tupac and then Rakim. I think Tupac would be up there with the best but his legacy has been tainted by the large number of posthomous albums released with producers and rappers that don't deserve to be sharing a track with him.

Add to that the large amount of sh*tty music Tupac made in his lifetime.

I don't consider Monch to be up there with the all time greats, but he did hip-hop the correct way by producing a solid batch of quality albums as opposed to the many MC's who favour quantity over quality.

Tupac's to hip-hop what The Beatles are to Pop Music, the two are synonymous and if you're judging by critics scores, most of music critics for publications such as Rolling Stone/NME/whatevz are ignorant to hip-hop so hail guys like Pac and Jigga as the GOAT due to them having the most recognizable names.
Pac wasn't that great in the grand scheme of things.

Personally for me, Rakim has always come out top. Hip-hop wouldn't be where it is today without him, he was the guy who was the innovator of multi-syllable rapping, without him we may be stuck in the dark ages of salt n pepa and other ****ty novelty acts.

Rakim and KRS-ONE IMHO.

Also, I'll take Eminem too.

Not trying to be a d*ck, as I once thought Eminem was the best rapper ever, but I assume you haven't listened to a multitude of MC's?

Eh I'm not really big on rap. I'll just point out B-Real from Cypress Hill.
