Agreed. "[I]t's obvious that the Voidoids have something more than the usual punk engine-gunnings going for them: in the dense mesh of guitars are, unmistakably, quotes from and elaborations on Miles Davis lines off albums like Agharta and On the Corner; if you listen and look closely, you can tell that this incredible stylistic melding is emanating mainly from the guitarist over stage left, a quiet, balding guy in sunglasses named Robert Quine. When the Voidoids break up, he will make an album of instrumental improvisations with guitarist friend Jody Harris (ex-of the Contortions) and a rhythm machine." -- Lester Bangs

I vividly remember a period of time in the '80s playing little else but Blank Generation, Destiny Street ("Time" is my favorite Hell/Voidoids track) and Escape by Bob Quine/Jody Harris.

Wait, an album by ex-dudes from the Voidoids and the Contortions? Vocals or not, hell yes!

I remember trying to rep this to you and you acting like American first wave punk didn't matter

It's not forgotten by anyone actually into punk

I definitely never said that. I might have said something disparaging about punk somehow or another, since punk is certainly self-important and full of **** in many ways, but it certainly wasn't in reference to this album. I'd also heard the album before I ever knew you, but it's possible I'd forgotten that it was good or something.

Something about how British punk is what made it something anyone cared about

Well yeah I definitely would have said that, but not because New York punk wasn't awesome.
