Lou Gramm - "Midnight Blue"

This is a song that gets played all the time on the Iowa radio station I usually have on at work, and so I decided to look it up today and read the lyrics.

The sound of the song doesn't grab my attention much, but while listening to it yesterday I noted with more interest that the song uses colors (which exist only in the mind) as metaphors to explain a sense of a feeling or desire ("cherry red") and of the unknown ("midnight blue")...at least those are my interpretations:

I didn't think that song could get any better, but then I found the German version

It's a pretty moving piece.

Even more so when it's accompanied by this footage:

I love the original German version, too! (I posted this video down in an 80's song thread a while back because I like the song so).

I'm a little rusty with my German, though, so the song doesn't hit me as strongly in German as it does in English, BD. But German and Germans are always cool. I want a yellow pant suit!

Now for more 80's awesomeness, my other favorite German song:

Nena - 99 Luft Balons

I think the chorus flows better in German than in English. I don't know why, it just seems that way to me.

German:

Völlig losgelöst
von der Erde
Schwebt das Raumschiff
Völlig schwerelos

English:

Earth below us
Drifting, falling
Floating weightless
Calling, calling home

I know some German because I took it in high school. If I made the effort to become fluent in it, I could probably pick it up quickly.

Erykah Badu - Baduizm.

Such a smooth album, it may be the most relaxing album I have ever heard
