Expand your horizon

Is there a genre of music that you really want to explore but don't know where to start? This is the thread for requests and recommendations whereby you post a genre and someone with knowledge in that area big up's an album and sorts out a link too. Why? It's boring narrow minded :D So get cracking. I am personally looking for some gentle Opera as it's one of the few genres unexplored by myself. We can include sub genres here no problems. Also post your thoughts when you have listened to the recommended album. Anyone with less than 50 posts will be excluded from this as our regular recommendation thread should suffice.

I have been trying to get some good blues rock, with a bass driven sound. SRV type stuff kind of. Im having trouble finding artists that really appeal to me.

Also some bass driven smooth jazz would be great. Again, im having trouble finding artists i like.

Thanks for any help anyone can offer. Reco's and Links/Video's are appreciated.

What exactly does gentle opera mean?

I have some stuff I can up, but not sure it's what you're looking for.

The more mellow, ethereal sound. Nothing too bombastic.

Just you tubed a few snippets and they seem a little OTT for what I was looking for but there is something that appeals for sure. I would imagine an Opera is a lights out eyes closed type of experience. Thanks for the suggestion.

Man, you know, I'm having a real hard time getting into mainstream post-grunge. Anyone think they can help me?

Which artists have you looked into so far?

Here's one you may know...I love it personally, may be a little much for you but worth a try. (It's just one song...we can post links to single songs right?)
14 Ellens Gesang III ('Ave Maria'), song for voice & piano, D. 839 (Op. 52-6).mp3

Things I want to get into:
-Punk Rock which rebells against something directly (Like Bikini Kill with femanism)
Stuff like The Misfits is just fun music, but doesn't seem to have much of a point.
-Anything that sounds like Heroin from The Velvet Underground or Washer from Slint, or like Snake off the 4-track demos album by PJ Harvey.
-Anything bluesy or with jazz or swing that has a rock or metel side to it.
