Yep, big fan of Bowie and probably the main influence for his second solo album (which was terrible by way). As for Morrison... well, you be the judge:

A Jimmy Morrision nut if there ever was one.

When STP hits it right, I much prefer them to most Pearl Jam material, personally. Although, it's quite obvious that Pearl Jam deserves far more respect for their achievements throughout their career.

The more important band? Pearl Jam.

The band I prefer today? Stone Temple Pilots.

Then again, even Pearl Jam's importance is overstated by fans and much of the music press, IMO.

I own several of their albums but don't worship at the altar of Eddie. They're a good 90s alt rock band -- nothing more, nothing less -- and I can rattle off two dozen bands from the same time period I'd rather listen to.

Quite a lot of their songs really, but that is still a good STP song.

Good god that was gross. It sounds like when King Crimson tried recording ballads in the early 80s, except somehow even cheesier.

Sure this is a different style but not a single tune I ever heard come from the STP camp or any of its offshoots even comes close to capturing the raw emotion and energy as this simple straight ahead rocker.

Ultimately I think it comes down to personal preference, I like listening to rock music to get hyped up, I like feeling the rush of blood through my body as a result of the rawness and passion within the recorded performance, the sensation of all the hairs on my arms standing on edge, the entirety of my being lighting up and paying attention. That's just not something I get from a group like STP. But holy crap is it ever hard for me to not bounce off the walls when I hear something like State of Love and Trust.

Not a huge Pearl Jam fan, and while STP are rip offs, they still entertain me. So, STP.

Great pick for a video Dave. This was my favorite song off the Singles Soundtrack back in the day. STP comes across like a parody act to me, and i find Scott Weiland to be a semi poser. I also gotta hand it to PJ for some of their ballad type songs also, my fave probably being I AM MINE. I think there is something so touching and encompassing about the lyrics. They talk to me in a way that STP could never do.

I don't know how anyone could pick stp. As someone previously said, they were a rip-off. Just a mimicking band. I used to love their stuff but then I started seeing how fake they were.

Well they did mimic Pearl Jam, the Beatles and the Doors very well. Thats what most good artists do, they take ideas from various sources and make them their own, STP were an example of doing it very well, Bush were an example of doing it very badly.
